This was our 2nd stay on this lovely peaceful site. Great walks in the woods gathering chestnuts and listening to the birds and the owls serenade at night. Fabulous week visiting friends and family and eating out. Staff are brilliant, so helpful and hard working. Lovely laid out site with plenty of space per pitch and facilities are spotless. Nice little shop where you can get the basics and staff will order a daily paper if you want one. Van visits selling good quality Fish n Chips on a Friday night, I can recommend the Scampi and Haddock. What more do you need, a true hidden gem down in the woods. Cant wait for next season and our next visit.
Rookesbury first visit
I thought the site was peaceful well maintained and laid out beautifully in a picturesque setting. The staff were very helpful and their efforts to ensure the upkeep of the site were obvious. The toilet and shower facilities plus the other bits and bobs were excellent. On personal level I found the site location a bit remote admitting that I far prefer a coastal setting. That said the surrounding countryside and attractive towns and villages were enjoyable. A nice village and pub within walking distance would have made the place almost perfect.

Excellent site
Only stayed one night before catching Portsmouth ferry to IOW and to visit family in the area. The assistant warden, a lady who had just been there a week or so, who dealt with us was very welcoming, friendly, polite and nothing was too much trouble. Site was kept clean and tidy, showers were spotless. No negatives at all and would gladly revisit.
Back Again
Spent an overnight on this site on our way to the Isle of Wight, very convenient. The site has grown since our last visit around 15 years ago. More hardstandings now but still not enough as the weather had been very wet. Having a motorhome with a car on a trailer we were extremely lucky to get the last hardstanding on the site. The loo block we used was rather tired, clean but really needs updating. The motorhome emptying point with the new open drain does not allow sufficient room for cars with caravans to pass easily when its being used, the road could easily be opened up wider as it approaches the loo block and motorhome point. Previous comments mentioned both wifi and wardens. The wardens I met were friendly on arrival and didn't come into contact with them again so no problem. On the wall in the wardens office there is a map showing where the wifi struggles with a signal, so members can check. The clubs wifi fee for a year is reasonable, the member who suggested that other (obviously commercial) sites provide free wifi must be kidding, so far we have used 2 non Caravan Club Sites this year and both charged for wifi!
The following morning saw our Truck Satnav take us off the motorway too early. We should have been looking at the overhead signs as the junction is a double and we should have taken the second slip! I think I'll start map reading again, but we still had plenty of time to make the ferry.
Back to normality on this site
Regarding the previous review stating the earlier reviewers must have got their sites muddled regarding the friendly wardens ,well I can certainly say they did not because the head warden was most unfriendly & upset many caravaners. She has now left the site after not completing 2yrs of her 5 yrs and has been replaced by temporary wardens who along with the other assistant wardens are very friendly & helpful. We couldn't help but notice the change in the site, it felt so more relaxing & back to how it used to be, we will certainly be coming back a lot more now as it was always one of our favourite sites.
An excellent site
We have used this site many times for its ferry pitches, but this time decided to stay 5 nights and explore the local area. Reading earlier reviews, we wondered what we might expect, but have come to the conclusion that the earlier reviewers must have got their sites muddled. All the wardens were extremely friendly and helpful, and clearly work very hard to keep this busy site in an excellent condition. The facilities are very good with the exception perhaps of the CDP in the main toilet block which could do with refurbishing. The very well kept dog run is one of the largest and well kept I have seen, and families are not left out with a good play area. There are some lovely places to visit nearby such as Wickham and Portchester and we shall certainly be returning.

Another fine week here!
We have been visiting this site regulary from north yorkshire.we love it, peaceful , scenic , clean and helpful friendly wardens.our dog loves it too, both for the official dog walking area ánd the surrounding forest walks.
Yes phone signal weak and wifi not good, but a small price to pay for such an otherwise excellent site, will be back next year , steve n sal
Good site but...........
Nice site. Quite big, impersonal & expensive. Facilities good and if Members stick to arrival times the access road is adequate. Our phone signal was poor on the site together with 3G/4G coverage. We therefore had to use Club wifi. It's not expensive but extremely difficult and complicated to use especially if you want to use it on more than one device. Signing out is a nightmare. It is time the Club sorted this out once and for all. Most campsites have free wifi now and if the Club feels that it has to charge it needs to sort out the coverage and ease of use. Inconsistency of coverage, even on the same site, is irritating to say the least.
A great site but some shortcomings
The site is ideally located for Portsmouth and the surrounding areas. It is large and has a variety of pitches. For those with small dogs, the dog walk is beautifully maintained and is a pleasure to use. Those with larger or more energetic dogs can benefit from the woods accessed behind the toilet block. Walking from the site via the woods and the disused railway line to Wickham takes only 3/4 hour and is worth doing. Unfortunately, the site is in need of some modernisation in line with many club sites in that there are too many grass pitches which become waterlogged after any rainfall. In addition the trees need to be cut back to obviate the annoying drips onto the van after rain. The internet is also very fragile and can be hit or miss. Overall, a good peaceful site which will hopefully be modernised with more hardstandings and enhanced internet connectivity.
Lovely!
We have just joined the Caravan & Motorhome Club having been caravanning off and on since 1994, and so Rookesbury Park was our first experience of a Club site. Wow...we couldn't fault it!
We have been used to the bigger sites with entertainment and swimming pools, etc and since 3 out of 4 of our kids don't come with us anymore our needs have changed.
I wish we'd joined before. The site is spacious, spotlessly clean, quiet and very well kept. The dog walking area is great and it was nice to see children running around and cycling freely without anyone getting on at them. The toilets/showers were excellent and spotlessly clean as were the drinking and grey water facilities.
This site is very local to us so it's somewhere we will use as a hideaway as often as we can from now on and are looking forward to visiting other Club sites too.
I wish we'd experienced this years ago...if the other Club sites are like this then I'm sure we'll have a great time.
