We've just had a fantastic week at Rookesbury Caravan Club Site.
We last stayed here four years ago. There was so much to see and do we couldn't fit it all into one week, so we promised we would visit again.
Well, we had fantastic weather all week! We visited Quarr Abbey in Ryde, Isle of Wight and hired bicycles there from TaV cycles. We've seen the model village and art museum. Southsea and Portsmouth were lovely. So many shipping vessels to look at.
Rookesbury is a wonderful site. The team are friendly and helpful. The site and facilities are clean. Everyone on the site while we were there were friendly and respectful. Thank you Rookesbury! :)
Our final hurdle
We arrived late on Friday night, 27/7/24 and located an envelope on the board. We were booked onto to a ferry pitch and then 2 nights on a normal pitch leaving Monday for home. Wondering how we would go about morning after ferry pitch stay to migrating onto normal pitch. We had no need to worry. We went into the office and was greeted by a really cheerful lady who made it so easy. We felt really looked after and cared for. Thank you for looking after us.

Great Wardens
Another warm welcome by the lovely hard working Wardens. Due to family circumstances this was my fifth stay at this immaculate site so far this year. Have booked another stay for early September
Good site, but...
Nice site in a quiet isolated location with Wickham village a couple of miles drive away or an hour walk through the woods (shorter route is now closed). The pitches are packed tightly with the CMHC making use of every inch - which is a real shame. There's more space allocated to the dogs and tents than caravans and motorhomes which suggests the club has lost what should be their focus. At the expense of reducing the pitch density, the site could be even better. The wardens were great bar one who seemed to be having an off week as we witnessed him have run-ins with different people on 2 separate occasions. We'd read all of the reviews before we went and we really looking forward to it and while it is a lovely site, I think you need lower your expectations to avoid being disappointed. Yes it's a quiet isolated location in beautiful countryside, but the amount of grass to maintain comes with the noise of daily grass cutting for hours on end. Maybe avoid the top end as otherwise you have the tractors emptying bins, grass cutting and ferry pitches change overs. Hence some of the 5* reviews are a little unrealistic. I'm all for a glowing review, but maybe a bit of balance would be helpful.

Only One Hiccup
Scrupulously clean facilities and plenty of them, modern and in first class condition. Excellent large field for off-lead dog exercise, plenty of service points, very well maintained and kept pitches (mainly). Courteous staff. Massive pitches compared to many I've been on, peaceful atmosphere, well placed for visiting Portsmouth etc.
The only hiccup is that we arrived in absolutely torrential rain and thunder and chose what was probably the only lumpy and sloping pitch on the site, got drenched trying to level up both front to back and side to side but needed to just get on with it after a long drive and 3 anxious dogs in the car. If we'd stayed longer we'd have moved pitch (not worth the faff for 3 nights). This was just bad luck - the Site itself is absolutely worth staying on and when the sun came out next day it was a really nice place to stay.
Helped us out
We had to get home for family reasons & had to cut short our holiday.( travelling from the Yorkshire Dales to Sussex) Having struggled to find a club site en -route we called RP: At short notice ( and getting late) they were able to accommodate us in the ‘ Ferry Area’. ( leaving paperwork & detailed instructions etc)
It really helped us out & they were so helpful. I can’t thank them enough. First class service.
Thank you Gary & Fran Fisher
Excellent site to stay for 1 night or several
We booked a Ferry pitch on return from France at the end of June and I have to say that it was excellent for a 1 night stay. We were met as we arrived and guided to the pitch - all set up within about 15 minutes! Staff were excellent and the facilities were kept very clean!
The ferry pitches are a great idea and the normal pitches layout also look very nice so all in all a perfect place to stay for one night or several!
GREAT SITE FOR FERRIES & HISTORIC DOCKYARD- NEED STRICTER RULES POSTED FOR DOG OWNERS!!
We stayed at Rookesbury for a few days before and after our trip to France in June '24, so we could visit the historic dockyard at Portsmouth. You can get a 'park and ride' for just £4 per car (covering up to 5 passengers) which has it's final stop within a few minutes walk to the dock entrance. The site is very clean and tidy, with the toilets being spotless. The Wardens were friendly and helpful.
Unfortunately, what seemed to be lacking was a stricter control over the rules of dogs on site and the responsibilities of their owners. It seems that CAMC members think that because they love their dogs, everybody who don't have dogs will also! There is an exercise area where owners can take their dogs, but every day we watched owners allowing their dogs relieving themselves wherever they wanted on very long extension leads, so doing so on the pitches. One lady even walked her dogs within a few feet at the rear of our caravan (I did have a word!) We did report a dog owner who had two large dogs off-lead allowing them to roam around the pitch area defecating. He only cleared up when he saw me.
The site wardens need more signage posted around the site concerning the responsibilities of dog owners.....
fantastic staff
we only stayed on this site on a ferry pitch , we turned up in the pouring rain and one of the wardens came out and guided me onto my ferry pitch . what great service and thank you . all the facilities were spotless and the site looked very peaceful but we did not have time to explore everything
Wonderful site!
Frequent visitors to Rookesbury Park and pleased to say that the new staff team here for ‘24 are carrying on the great work of the previous team! Site seemed very quiet compared to previous years but not surprising with the costs involved (not the site teams issue!).
Highly recommend this place for a stay whateverbthe duration without WiFi as good as you’d like it!
