Short stay at Ramslade

Stayed on this site recently for a couple of days break and had a lovely time. Can't understand some of the reviews on here. Regarding access the handbook does say it is a narrow lane with passing places and by going slowly and looking ahead we were fine. Surely children's behaviour is parent's responsibility not the site staff. Having said that I did see staff reminding children about the one way system just for them to ignore the advice as soon as the lady turned her back. The site staff were always polite and pleasant, a cheery greeting whenever I saw them. I did ask and there are three couples working there during the busy time of year. They were always busy but remained cheerful. The shower blocks were cleaned thoroughly in the mornings and left immaculate as on all CC sites. Surely it is up to members to leave it as they would like to find it and to mention it to site staff if they have been unwell or unfortunately find something unpleasant left by another Caravan Club member. This is a site in a lovely area with lots to see and do and neither the site nor the staff deserve some of the comments that I have read on here.

More attention to detail needed then could have been better

Firstly, I would like to address quite a few reviews on access to the site. I have a large caravan and large vehicle and had no issues even though we met other oncoming vehicles with a bit of forethought and planning even an moderately competent driver should be ok as long as you follow the directions from the CC Website. Its worth noting that there is 3 or 4 caravan sites up this road so it must be fine. However, that brings me onto our stay at this site. Upon arrival the we were greeted pleasantly and made our way to a pitch. As we were there for a week we chose to pay the extra for a serviced pitch. The pitch we selected was very nice and level. Its worth noting though that if you intend to use the tap on the service pitches you should bring at least 25m of hose with you to get it to reach. Our hose didn’t (even though it has on all other club sites we have been to). You could however choose to pay the extortionate prices in the onsite shop to obtain some hose. For example the hose which you can buy for 76p per metre was £2.50 per metre! And the hoselock type connectors which you can get from Wilkinsons for 50p each were £2.99 each! ?These over inflated prices should really be policed better by the CC. However, we chose not to pay the nearly £40 to get the hose and connectors especially as we had already paid the extra for a serviced pitch! I refer to previous reviews about the TV antenna points in the bollards, the 3 points we tried all failed to work so we found it best to use the van aerial. The WiFi is also a waste of money here. We were pitched close to the park and of an evening this really was not the place to be as the foul language and screaming and shouting was horrendous this went on until 10 o’clock most nights and after leaving these youths decided to use the tarmac roads on the hills as a downhill speedway. We had to address this ourselves as we had children trying to sleep and did so on numerous occasions until we kindly asked the warden to do their job and check on the site in the late afternoons and evenings. It did get a little earlier but it still wasn’t monitored particularly well. The facilities were generally ok, the showers were of good pressure and plenty of hot water, however on numerous occasions in both male and female toilets were out of soap and toilet rolls. On one occasion I went in to find the toilet cubicles covered in vomit where someone had been ill. The location was idyllic and the river shack in stoke Gabriel is a must to visit with a spot of crabbing to really relax and unwind. Despite the wardens being friendly and nice, I do feel that they have lost focus here and with 8 wardens on this site, this really shouldn’t happen as this site is below the standard that we have experienced on other club sites.

Lovely stay but note narrow access

We booked a hardstanding pitch which was level and spacious. The playground is large with excellent play equipment and a large play field. We didn't use them, but there is also a toddler splash pool and small games room. Wifi is variable and phone signal very poor. The access road (about 1.5 miles) is very narrow in places, but we managed it ok taking it slowly and there are several passing places. We understand there are new houses being built further down this lane, and I would wonder how easy it will be to get through when construction is underway and I'd hope the club will/has discussed this with the LA. That aside Stoke Gabriel is beautiful, the kids loved crabbing and there is lots to do in the local area. We had a great stay at this site and would definitely return.

Slightly disappointed

Nice site Narrow lanes leading to it. Children are still riding around on bikes and skateboards etc late at night. Not a lot of attention to detail on the shower block and toilets. Other sites have been spotless whatever time of day. Still enjoyed ourselves. Stayed an extra day.

Nice site. Shame about the access.

Just arrived back from our stay at Ramslade. It is such a lovely site, ideal location for exploring the English Riviera. The site is very well maintained and wardens are very helpful. The facilities for kids is excellent with a small games room, splash pool for toddlers and a lovely park with large playing field. The only thing that spoils this site is the road leading to it, it is very narrow in places and I would dread coming face to face with an on coming caravan, I had the misfortune of finding the bus coming along the lane from Stoke Gabriel in a narrow spot, however the bus driver was brilliant and reversed back to a bay. Once you are on the site it is lovely and would return.

Lovely family holiday

We have just arrived back from a holiday at Ramslade with our three children (8,6&1) We enjoyed our time here and found the site to be clean and well maintained. The wardens were very friendly although, I felt our welcome brief was a little too brief - we had to find out about the paddling pool, park and games room ourselves. The speed limit on site is 5mp which is necessary with so many children about, although it still remains a very quiet and peaceful site in parts. Hard standing Pitches were fully level. The site has a narrow entrance road but we found people to be very courteous. Great location for enjoying the sites of the English Riveria - Brixham, Dartmouth, Torquay all within a couple of miles.

Return visitor

Been here several times and will keep returning. Great quiet location, lovely clean and modern facilities. Couple of local pubs in a short walking distance - good in the day light not as safe during sun down especially with small children. Good play area for the children. Helpful and friendly wardens.

Lovely stay

Stayed here from 2nd July for 7 nights and had a lovely time. Wardens friendly site clean and tidy. Very handy for visiting Paignton and Torquay the only down side buses only ran every 90 mins so we had to mostly use the car.

First Timers

The site was very well maintained and the staff very helpful nothing was too much trouble. We are first time caravanners and they helped us get the power on and sort our van out. We had our dog with us and they were very helpful with information on where we could eat with her etc. Access to the site is tricky make sure you only go the way recommended by the site info or you could be in real trouble even the recommended route is tight in places I would say try to arrive in daylight. The hard standing pitches are flat but a lot of the grass pitches are on sloping ground some quite steep, if you arrive without chocks and blocks you could have problems. Wi fi is poor in places and so is phone reception. We enjoyed our stay here overall its a great site very peaceful even though there were lots of kids playing around. Good location for visiting Torquay and the surrounding coastline and attractions. Yes we would go back.
