Love Putts Corner - what a great site

This was our third visit to the site and you can not fault the wardens, they are friendly, super kind and always have time to help if you need it - they are a total credit to the Caravan Club. The site is really clean and really well kept and established with hedging and trees. There are two toilet blocks both of which are modern and as I said very clean. There is a good dog walk through the woods and the pub can be accessed through another path so you don't have to go on the road (although we didn't use the pub this time). 4 stars for peace and quiet as the site is next to a fairly busy road that quietened off at night and directly below the flight path for Exeter airport so you do get some plane noise - neither thing bothered us but it wouldn't be fair if I didn't mention this. 4 stars for location only because you really have to get in your car to go anywhere - it's a little way out of Sidmouth which is approached down a steep hill - so cycling down would be ok but back would be really tricky, it is also a windy road and a fast road for the cars. A plus side on the location is you can travel around really easily if you do use your vehicle and are central for many wonderful places. Do visit the donkey sanctuary which is FREE - you pay a donation and has a lovely shop and coffee shop. Beer is pretty and there is parking. Sidmouth is wonderful. There is a car park at Sidbury (turn left at the cross roads and then 20 yards on the right is the car park - note height restricted to about 2.0m) which accesses the Byes which you can ride you bike or walk - it's just over 2 miles into Sidmouth and all off road and through countryside and park - it's lovely and well worth doing, but just be careful of the height restriction on the car park. If you go into Sidmouth head to the main beach car park (which is on the right side of Sidmouth) - there is loads of space for bigger vehicles. Cross the road and enjoy the wonderful floral display in the park and enjoy tea and the hugest bit of cake in the Tower Tea room. Safe bathing in the sea on this beach and part of it is dog friendly during the summer. The Riveria Hotel has a fabulous terrace on the sea front (about half way along) which serves morning coffee and afternoon tea/lunch etc, you pay a little more but you are served beautifully and it's a stunning location. Exe Valley way is great to cycle - note the Topsham ferry says bike friendly but it's a bit tricky getting your bikes on. Topsham to Exmouth lovely - the Imperial Hotel at Exmouth does a nice lunch too. Pretty place. Topsham to Exeter not so pretty ! Exeter to Dawlish pretty. Massive shopping centre at Exeter and interesting historical part. Steam railway at Buckfast to Totnes lovely - Totnes quaint and very nice. Budleigh Salterton - lovely, stony beach but safe bathing, a few shops in town, river walk to Otterton Mill, good parking for motor homes. Coast path walking is stunning. Great holiday will be back!
