Going downhill fast

We have been going to putts corner for the past 10 years, sometimes twice a year. This year we decided on a near 3 week stay. The good :- I can honestly say that Diane and co were very friendly and helpful and had zero issues with any site staff. Bear in mind lots of other reviews to the contrary. The facilities were always spotless after being cleaned, unfortunately what members do to them after is beyond belief. If they act like this at home, it must be utterly disgraceful. The Bad:- I have raised this on a number of occasions with the club (silence I hasten to add) the service pitches are extremely tight and small, considering the uplift in prices it really is not good enough. At one point during our stay half of the toilets and showers were closed off, this did result on one morning a queue formed. Quite unacceptable considering others could be available. But another surprise was the fact that only half of the cleaning was required due to shut off, the facilities were still closed for the full allotted time? Other members with dogs, sorry to upset the furry dog brigade but, you are responsible for your dog and their behaviour. Why is there a need to have a dog on a lead so long you have no control over it, why the need to let your dog wander over other pitches whilst on this ridiculous lead. Why the need to allow your dog to foul in any shape on any pitch. There is a dog walk for gods sake, how about using it. Incredibly I actually witnessed somebody open their caravan door, let the dog out on this wander lead, do his business then drag it back in, walk (ha ha ha) over. The ugly:- Can say more than the site is now extemley scruffy. Grass, hedges etc really do need attention. In the middle of the devon countryside do we really need to have such unkempt areas of a holiday site? My own opinion is NO, the no mow May sms to extend into September, I have neve experienced this site in such a state. The club need to take on board we are now paying exorbitant fees in excess of private sites for a lot less and to give us paying members less for more is simply scandalous.

Comment from the Club:

Many thanks for your review and we are delighted that found the team friendly and helpful. The Site team have actually been in touch as they wanted to address your concerns. They have been working really hard to get Putts Corner looking good and as you can see from the previous review, there's been lots of work carried out by the team to the grass and hedges on the campsite. With regards to any issues or concerns on Club Campsites, please do speak to our site team as they are always happy to hep if they can. They have not seen any dogs on long leads so please report this at the time of your stay so they can help by speaking to members. Many thanks and we hope this helps for future visits.

Excellent Site

First time visiting this site and couldn't be happier. Having read some earlier reviews, was a little concerned but the staff were friendly and welcoming. The facilities were excellent and any information needed about the local area, bus stops etc. were freely available. The site was tidy and during our stay, lots of work was being dome to the grass and hedges. Yes, the staff will challenge you if you do not park your unit as per the rules. If you dont like being challenged then follow the rules. The toilet and shower blocks were clean and tidy. The nearby Hare and Hounds pub gets very busy and I would recommend booking if you want to eat here. Highly recommend this site.

Great Site

We managed to get a late bank holiday booking and couldn't fault the site. The facilities are very clean and tidy. Diane was very welcoming and pointed out some of the better pitches for us to pick. Terraced gravel pitches, so it is very easy to level out the van. As we were booked in at the pub next to the site we opted for a pitch near the path through the woods. A three-minute walk to the pub, which if you like a carvery you will love. The bus into Sidmouth stops opposite the pub and is way better than trying to park. Sidmouth is very nice, with lots of places to eat and drink. One bonus is that as it's on the top of a hill, the telecom masts are nearby, so the 4G signal is really good, 20Mps or more. The TV signal is good as well.

Love it here!

We visit here quite often, as we have relatives close by. Every visit is a joy, on this visit we were greeted by Diane and her husband who couldn’t have been more welcoming. I like the way parts of the site are left for nature to ‘run a little wild’ there is so much wildlife, the dawn chorus is worth waking up early for. It’s a very peaceful site. Lovely clean facilities and so restful. Looking forward to our next visit already. Sidmouth and Budleigh are delightful places to visit.

Site manager could not be more helpful

Stayed at putts corner for bank holiday weekend. The pitch was spacious and level. The facilities were clean and tidy and staff friendly. The site was nice and quiet, even though near the road it is minor and not much traffic. My partner had a medical emergency during the weekend and the staff could not be any more helpful. Both sympathetic and willing to help anyway possibly. Can not fault them. I would stay here again. Highly recommended

Lovely site, great wardens…..

We have just spent a great week at this lovely site while attending the Sidmouth Folk Festival Having read the recent reviews just before we left I was rather worried as they were pretty damning. I needn’t have been. The wardens were very friendly and helpful and the site was in great condition, considering the recent weather. The grass was cut and everywhere was clean and tidy. The location is great for exploring East Devon and even visiting Dartmoor. Highly recommended.

Very relaxing place

Despite a few negative reviews we thought we would give Putts a go. A lovely site, pretty and set amongst trees. The staff are superb, very friendly and helpful. The facilities are immaculate. Access to the site very easy and placed well for driving into Sidmouth. Our grandchildren enjoyed the park and the dog walk around the site. Walked from the site to the Hare and Hounds for a carvery which we highly recommend. Best to book before as it’s a very popular pub! Kids loved the play area in the pub garden. Rate this site highly and have already booked again!

Relaxing and peaceful

We have just returned home following a 5 night stay, from 31st July. It was our first time at this lovely site in our caravan. Staff were helpful and friendly. We requested a pitch near to facilities if possible and we were offered a choice - nothing seemed too much trouble . The site is very pretty, surrounded by lovely trees and woodland and the pitch sizes are very generous. Everything was spotlessly clean and easily accessible. Great site to explore east Devon. We have had dreadful weather but still really enjoyed our stay here and will definitely be returning. Thank you.

Peaceful but scruffy

We stayed here for 5 nights from 15th July. Wardens (only ever saw the wife) and both assistant wardens were very friendly - especially the assistant wardens who we only saw once as they had been on holiday. The shower and toilet block is immaculate, my husband said the men's was too. But the site is a mess - the grass is far too long, scruffy both at the edges and between pitches. Uncomfortable to sit on grass between pitches. The serviced pitches are much too close together, we moved to a non-serviced for more openness. The site has way too many trees, which don't look as though they are managed (presumably a head office fault not local) which makes the site too dark and over shadowed. Weeds on some pitches need to be removed. Overall, the site was dark and unkempt, scruffy looking, compared to the many other CAMC sites we have visited. Cost wise, CAMC need to be very careful with its prices, as they are becoming very expensive compared to many private sites, and it is after all a members' club. It's a comment we hear regularly from members. The site only had about a third occupancy while we were there - very strange for Devon in July.

Clean facilities, grounds fairly unkempt, aggressive wardens.

We arrived at the site and chose a pitch. We had a genuine problem that we would have liked the wardens to work with us to resolve to be only confronted by aggression and the threat of having our membership revoked. Looking at previous reviews aggression displayed in becoming a current theme. Will raise this with the CAMC in a formal complaint. The grounds look unkempt with longish grass and hedges overgrown. Over our five night stay the wardens were noticeable by their absence, only saw them when they were emptying the bins. On a positive, the facilities were always clean and comfortable but we probably would not stay again with the current warden structure.
