Excellent stay

Stayed here for 10 nights. Two children, two dogs, two holidaying parents......excellent stay. Weather lovely. Staff lovely (Not sure why the negative reviews) yes it is on the airpath, but it's not all night. Most people check the local surroundings and would notice an AIRPORT! IF NOT TOUGH. NO REASON TO DOWNGRADE THE SITE.....Staff helpful, relaxed atmosphere. Very clean. Didn't use wifi, didn't care about TV reception. Dog walk was good. Hare and Hounds close by and was reasonable. Good area for day trips and beach visits.

No WiFi, no walking, noisy, smelly

It's a club site so the facilities are to the usual standard, if lacking the little touches that you find at some sites. The WiFi is atrocious. ..... and it was supposed to be working ..... well below the description of "bronze standard" in the handbook. TV reception was little better (80 channels but not the main BBC and commercial ones - lots of shopping and adults). The dog walk, although very nice, is right next to the road (along which people seem to drive like nutters) and is unfenced, so despite the advice, the dogs didn't get off the lead here. Walking from the site seemed to require lengthy stretches on local roads (see previous comment about driving habits)........so really wasn't an option. At times there was quite a bit of road noise and at other times (including during the small hours) there was a fair bit of air traffic at low altitude ...... I'm guessing the site is situated on the approach to Exeter airrport. The top end of the site and the walk to the pub seemed to enjoy the benefit of the aroma from the pub's sewage treatment system.

A lovely site

We stayed here for 4 nights in June. Our first time in Devon. A lovely site, not too big and beautifully cared for by the friendly wardens. There are lots of trees on site but most pitches seemed open and sunny. A band of trees runs down one side of the site separating it from the road. A pleasant footpath through these trees provides the dog walk and leads to the near bye pub, the Hare and Hounds. The road isn't busy but there is no fence separating it from the dog walk so best keep your dogs on a lead. The pub is dog friendly (our dog was offered a sausage), there is a large garden area and the food was fine. We followed a couple of walking routes obtained from reception and enjoyed them both. The circular walk via Ottery St Mary was good walking, although a little challenging in one or two places. The shorter walk to Gittisham, a beautiful hamlet of thatched properties, was an easy walk but uphill on the way back. Of the towns we visited we particularly liked Beer, Sidmouth, and Seaton. There is a Parkrun at Seaton on a fast, flat course taking in some of the beach. We loved our time here and were sorry to leave.

First visit, well kept site, lousy wifi

Very friendly and helpfull staff. Facilities excellent and well site maintained. Very convenient site for visiting coastal places of Seaton (tramway), Beer, Branscombe, Sidmouth, Budleigh Salterton, Exmouth, Topsham and Exeter. Do not pay for wifi here. It was not working, and free wifi at nearby Hare & Hounds useless; probably the same provider. Had to travel just a couple of miles to the library at Ottery St Mary where the wifi was excellent. About time the Caravan & Motorhome club got its act together re wifi. Get rid of the current supplier and move to a supplier who can provide useable wifi. The wifi at the Beechwood Grange site on the outskirts of York, a major UK city was also useless and rarely useable. If the wifi code for any site in the Club book is rated BRONZE, do not pay for the wifi as reception will range from useless to unuseable. Wifi at the Camping & Caravan Club sites miles from anywhere, such as Veryan on the Roseland Peninsula, Cornwall, and Dunstan Hill in Northumberland was very good.

Returned again in June after many years.

A wonderful warm welcome from the wardens on our arrival after quite a long hot journey. Arriving late meant not much choice of pitch, so this time we were near the top of the site and had shade from the trees too but not overhanging the truck! Toilet block was very clean and I believe recently revamped, even with a full site the toilet block coped well and never seemed too busy and of course there is a toilet block at the bottom of the site too. Lots to do in the area and can highly recommend the pub at the top of the road for lunch. Will be back again soon.

Pity about the WIFI

Lovely site in a great position. Facilities spotless and wardens very helpful. Its just a pity that I was unable to use the wifi on site. It would connect ok , but the bandwith was abysmal. It seems a small gripe, but in todays world you think it could be sorted. Pay for a years wifi and its useless for our main holiday. Was only able to give 3 stars for peace and quiet due to plane noise mostly on an evening. But otherwise a perfect site.

Lovely site

Stayed here for 3 weeks in June. Quite a difficult time due to my husband’s illness but caring concern of other lovely members and wardens made this much easier to cope with. Lovely site well worth a visit for wildlife alone. Huge range of wild birds and squirrels attracted to feeder fastened to tow bar. Awesome !!!

Well earned break

Just back from our first visit to Putts corner, and we loved it. Easy to get to, bus stop opposite the pub about 250m away takes you to Sidmouth or Honiton. We visited Sidmouth,Beer and Seaton and had a ride on the Seaton tramway. All great experiences. Site was clean and tidy, and although full, we never had to wait for the facilities. The site is on the final approach for Exeter airport so there are low flying aircraft at times. We had a great carvery at the Hare and Hounds, served every day and even on Saturday nights! We’ll be back definitely.
