North Ledaig August 2016

This is a fantastic site located just north of Oban. The view from the site which is on Ardmucknish bay is absolutely outstanding. The staff are very friendly. There is a well stocked shop on site. There are two very modern toilet blocks with an excellent laundry room attached to one of them. There is a bus stop directly opposite the site. I would highly recommend this site.

Scenery from every window

We stayed during August 2016 over a 12 day period. The weather wasn't brilliant but there was so much to do. Site staff were more than helpful with the facilities clean and well maintained. Our pitch was 20 metres to the high tide point with plenty of room between pitches. There is a well stocked site shop with long opening hours, The beach appeared to be clean and safe for bathers, access for boats etc on the site. The site is ideally suited for anyone wishing to visit this area. I have no difficulty recommending this site to members.

Good for children, dogs and boats

The location is spectacular and if you after a  bustling beach holiday with the family, boat and dog then this is for you. If however you want peace and quiet on a small site with an element of privacy then you may want to reconsider.  Members need to be aware that only one field is for members only. There are 3 other fields with vans packed much closer together than the Club would sanction. This makes for a VERY LARGE SITE all sharing the same 2 toilet blocks. The facilities were never overcrowded though because it was a 6 minute walk from the far end of the Members Only field, leading many people to use their own services. The best views are from here though so you may think it's worth it!

Beautiful location and view

Stunning site and view. Very helpful staff. Showers stop constantly so you have to keep pressing the button to complete a shower. Transport to get around is required or the knowledge of the local buse route and times are essential before hand. Lovely dog walks on site along the disused railway line that runs the whole length of the campsite.

Wow! what a view

Fantastic location with spectacular views, lovely walking on the adjacent beach. The weather was kind to us in early August, but I wondered what it would be like if the weather turned, as it is a very open position. Near lots of good tourist places with magical castles, scenic lochs and mountains. The ferry (£39.80 return for 2 + Motorhome) from Oban to Mull is a must. We had a great time in Tobermory and Lochbuie. However be warned the roads on the island are mostly single track; even with our compact van conversion we struggled in places. Really well stocked shop, good clean facilities and friendly helpful wardens. All in all loved it here, wished we good have stayed longer, definitely will be back to this one.

Great Shoreside Position – Shame about Belligerent Staff Member

We stayed here in July and picked the site for its close proximity to the shore and as affiliated to the Caravan Club expected a high standard of service. We were not disappointed with the pitch as we were lucky enough to be shown to a front row position which was fabulous. There was a lovely sunset one night and the views are great. The shop, as others have pointed out, is well stocked. However, the attitude of a particular member of staff who seemed to be in some position of seniority was most strange and frankly rather rude. There are two toilet/shower blocks and we used the one nearest the shore. The ladies showers (not the gents ) operate by push button. I can understand how this system helps conserve water, however it’s set to very brief (15/20 seconds) and not very hot flows so you can end up searching blindly for the button before you’ve chance to rinse the shampoo out of your eyes. A bit tedious but not a deal breaker. What I did find unacceptable was that the stools were missing out of about 3 of the 6 (I think it was) cubicles which without benches to leave your clothes/towels/toiletry bag on made them more or less unusable. They could also have done with more hooks to hang your stuff from. One morning I turned up but couldn’t get a shower because the only ones left unoccupied were the ones without stools, for obvious reasons. Another lady was also bemoaning the lack of stools. Also, the water wasn’t draining away quickly enough from the adjacent showers so that the floor of the end cubicle was ankle deep in everyone else’s water. Not very appealing. So off I went to report this to reception expecting that they would oblige with more stools but was completely stonewalled. Apparently, the reason they don’t have enough stools is because customers steal the stools quicker than they can replace them. The inference being it wasn’t their fault therefore there was nothing they could do about it, I just had to use stools from other cubicles (which were already occupied)! I can’t honestly believe these had all been stolen so recently that they’d no time to replace them and in any case I felt that this was their responsibility regardless of how it had come about. I felt like she was almost saying that if it wasn’t for you inconvenient customers we wouldn’t be in this position. When I mentioned the water backing up she didn’t even want to know which cubicles were affected. In fact, she didn’t even address this problem. There was a complete lack of concern and no apology forthcoming on either count. Her manner of speaking was both dismissive and defensive. She clearly wasn’t bothered about maintaining good customer relations, even in appearance if not in kind, as this was all within the earshot of new arrivals checking in and other customers. This is why I’m assuming she must have been in charge. Prior to this discussion I had asked if there was a customer postbox I could use for my postcard. This same lady pointed behind me and spoke to

Disappointed

We booked for three nights in May.  We chose this site using the handbook, which showed a lovely picture and said there were 120 pitches.  Unfortunately, when we arrived I realised that this was an enormous commercial site with 120 pitches for Caravan Club members. It was like a ghost town with a lot of seasonal pitches and unoccupied caravans with 'stuff' outside their units covered up with black bin bags - not very picturesque.  We have a large Motorhome and were sited at the far end which was a hike to the facilities. They were clean, but I'm sure in high season there wouldn't be enough. It was convenient to be right beside the dog walk and we enjoyed our walks on the beach.. However, shall avoid large Affiliated Sites in future.

Short Break

I stayed here in May 2016 for a long weekend. Having two dogs, the dedicated dog walk area and the location on the shingle beach was ideal, although the number of rabbits frustrated the dogs who wanted to be off lead chasing them! I was sited near the spotless toilet block and although the site was busy, there were sufficient staff working on maintenance, in the shop/reception etc. The warden was also very helpful. Location was good as only a few miles from Oban and a bus stop directly outside the site meant easy access if I didn't want to take the Motorhome into town. Overall, very happy with the site.

What a superb & well run site

This is the first review I've done as everyone is different and has different opinions. The last review I've just read for the site made me want to write my own though as it was not very nice. We found this site perfect as always, this is our third time we've been and each time we have not found fault with anything. It is always well run, organised and clean. I have to say it is some campers that don't always leave things as they find them so don't fully blame the site. They can't be stood outside the door to clean up after people who can't be bothered to do so themselves. Don't be put off, go and see for yourselves what a lovely well kept site it is with views to die for and not too far out of Oban which is a great town with lots of good eateries and boat trips from the harbour. There is also a well stocked shop on site and the staff are all very obliging. If you're going up to the highlands of Scotland this is definitely a place to stop off at.
