Site itself OK ...BUT!

We’ve used this site before and I’ve given high ratings but standards have slipped. We visited on 19th September for a 7-day stay before moving on to Littlehampton. Although it’s not high-season, all hard-standings and serviced pitches were occupied and we were forced to use a very wet and rather bare grass pitch. Many other grass pitches were covered with plastic sheets as re-seeding of the grass was in course of progress. This has always been regarded as a flagship site by the Club and there’s an obvious need for more serviced and hard-standing pitches. Like an earlier member has already commented, other members were allowed to book in earlier than the 12 o’clock requirement. On one day, as we were leaving for an outing at around 10.45am, there were 4 units lined up and booking in – they hadn’t been on the late arrivals pitches overnight. Why can’t these selfish members be made to wait until 12 o’clock – they’d soon learn their lessons? In the general area of the gents’ toilets/showers, there’s nowhere to hang wet outdoor clothes whilst using the washing/toilet/shower facilities. Also, of the 5 of the WC cubicles, only 2 had any pegs – where is one supposed to hang bags, clothes, towels, clothes whilst using the toilet? Is one expected to balance them on the toilet paper holder or leave them lying on the floor? It’s a practical problem and a potentially serious health hazard. The wardens’ explanation that they get broken and sometimes stolen and some were already on order is inexcusable – they should always be kept in stock and replacements fixed as quickly as possible. Six days after my first complaint, there were still no replacements. Yapping dogs were another problem. A close-by member had four, small, yapping dogs that barked in the night. Our sleep was disturbed at around 11.50pm, 2.30am and 4.40am. A next-door member and I complained separately but one of the warden’s explanation that “nothing can be done unless we witness the problem” seems to be dodging responsibility. I don’t expect wardens to be on patrol during the night but just a “quiet word” with the offender might have avoided a further repetition on this and other future sites where the offenders might visit. When I spoke to them directly, the response was “Oh, we didn’t realise they were making so much noise”. If these selfish members read this report then I hope they make a note to keep their dogs quiet in future. This was a disappointing visit!
