Fantastic refurb, in the main. Wonderful wardens, in the main

Morn Hill has been a favourite of ours for many years - though it was dated, the facilities were always spotless. The lower site is now all hard standing - this is understandable as it means the top site can be closed in the winter and the bottom site remain open, but it was a bit disappointing to have no grass on the bottom site. Given our preference for grass, then, we chose the top site for our visit in early September. There's some remaining damage to the ground caused by the upgrade, but that will disappear, I'm sure, by next summer. The new facilities blocks are stunning, but in the male facilities there are only two toilet cubicles (along with, I think, 2 or 3 showers and a couple of rather pointless cubicles for washing). Two male loos for over 50 pitches (including some tents) is inadequate and actually fewer than what was here before. So, there's a bit of an early race to get in there first thing. Not ideal. Aside from that, our stay was excellent. We were lucky to be checked in by the wonderful Marion and Elaine, two Scottish ladies who were the life and soul. Nothing was too much trouble, and we enjoyed every interaction from a cheerful "hello" when we passed to a lengthy explanation of the excellent "inclusive bathroom" on the lower site. What a wonderful idea. What a wonderful pair. We were also lucky with the weather as it was mainly dry, and we had a lovely several days. We only encountered the site manager once and, I'm afraid, the experience was not great, especially when contrasted to Marion and Elaine. Officious would be one word. I could use others. Overall, we loved the refurb. However, the new prices are eyewatering and will limit the number of times we'll be able to afford to visit.

It's Been a Long Time

We last visited this site in 2006 when we had a caravan but not been back with the motorhome, until now, because of the lack of hardstanding pitches. The excellent refurbishment as resolved this issue! I was a bit concerned on arrival as I wanted to use site vouchers and it was only a couple of days after the new booking system went live. I needn't have worried as the lady on reception suggested I go off an find a pitch and she would sort it whilst I was away. True to her word it was. Everyone I came in contact with in reception were very friendly. We were on the lower section which is now all hardstanding and has been nicely done and this section is open all year The upper section retains grass pitches except for a series of hardstanding short stay/ferry pitches. Both sections have excellent modern new toilet blocks both with open grill motorhome waste points in front of them. Good to see that reception sells a few essentials. There is a regular half hourly bus service between Winchester and Alton from near the entrance. The City is well worth a visit and only a couple of miles from the site. Alresford is a nice market town in the other direction and if you are interested in steam railways the Watercress Line terminates in the town.

Beware of Site Warden

I rarely comment on sites but this site needs a mention,we arrived nine minutes early and the site warden who wasnt working at the time but was just accross the other side of the road, asked his lovely assistants to get us to remove ourselves from site (Jobs worth) so we had to go off and go back on to a very busy roundabout and the lane entrance to the site is very dangerous, remember for nine minutes, we then parked in the little lane outside, we were then asked to bring the caravans in so they could be inspected (first time ever) mine is brand new, weird. He never spoke to us all the time we were there, head down stuff, very miserable, the only time he did speak was when we were leaving, i needed to say goodbye to the lovely Scottish ladies who made our week (Marion and Elaine) parked the van outside in the lane, as i was walking back out he was coming down the other side and said the exit is here which i could see quite easily and dont go under the barrier (i am 72 did he think i was going to Limbo Dance) As to the site, the hard standing pitches looked good, the showers etc were absoulutely fabulous, the grass pitches are much to be desired, the grass was very long, where lorries had been parked while doing the refurb there were deep tyre indentations Also a lot of uneveness where drains had been back filled leaving large humps, very obvious not a lot of money spent on a leased field. Going back to the showers the disabled shower was either very hot or very cold, which hadent been working properly for some time, my wife scolded her arm but not too bad thank goodness, by the way no sign up to say dont use, very dangerous. I know the rules said not to turn up before 1.00pm but to kick us off for nine minutes is in my opinion a little over the top. Wont be going back until he has moved on.

Amazing refurbishment

We have been caravanning for 6 years now and fairly regularly have stayed at Morn Hill as it’s pretty close to home. We live in Salisbury and we can be on site here in Winchester in about an hour. The site is spread over two tiers. The upper tier hosts both tent and caravan pitches. The lower tier only caravans/motor homes. I have left a review previously on this site, mainly in reaction to all the grumbling about the toilet and shower block facilities being a bit old fashioned. Yes, they were. BUT, they were always immaculately clean and I just don’t get people’s finicky whinging! The site has been closed for some time, receiving a huge investment and redevelopment. We arrived on site today and are delighted with the improvements. More hard standing pitches, brand spanking new toilet and shower blocks, new reception facilities and a total revamp of the whole site. It is FANTASTIC. staff are friendly and helpful, and the whole place feels lovely. My only tiny tiny critique is that they’ve missed a trick with shop offerings - but hey, it’s very early days. Tesco’s (Extra) is just up the road. Road noise is noticeable but certainly doesn’t bother us but it’s worth bearing in mind if you are after total peace and quiet. I’m fairly sure there’s no play park for children but for many that’s a bonus. 10/10.

Welcoming Site

arrived at this site in the rain on Monday 4th October and was greeted by the very friendly manager couple (forgotten names) who were really helpful and very chatty. I liked the site and looking forward to coming back after the building work is completed next year

Summer Break 2021

We have been using this site for many years now as it is ideal for our family visits to the Isle of Wight. On this occasion we used it as a few days stop over after touring Devon, Somerset and Dorset before heading home to Bedfordshire. We were fully aware of the refurbishments and are looking forward to visiting again next years once these have been completed. As we tried to pitch up our caravan the motor movers on the back set of tyres jammed onto the tyre and would not separate back to their normal position. No amount of switching the devise on and off would unblock them. We spoke to the wardens Chis and Lisa who were incredibly helpful and arranged for a caravan specialist to visit the site and help us. Lee arrived and duly fixed the problems. Chris then followed up to make sure all was well. Both Chris and Lisa work extremely hard to maintain a very clean and well kept site. Well done Guys and thank you again.

Looking forward to our next visit.

We were aware that this site was due to have the facilities improved (or replaced) and the fee we paid reflected this. That said, the wardens should be commended for keeping the tired blocks so clean. We were very impressed that they managed to do this with little interruption to our stay. We will look forward to another stay once work has been completed and it will get a 5* from us....

Needs urgent review

We were really looking forward to our stay at Morn Hill as we had never stayed there before. I read the reviews, but boy, were we disappointed. We felt out of place as we were probably the youngest on site with a teenager, other campers were friendly enough but I found the lady in reception sarcastic and rude when we first turned up. She did explain about the road noise for certain pitches but we found the noise carried across the site. Not very hidden disability friendly. And as for the toilet blocks, well, take flip flops to wear as the tiles are broken and they flood really easily. They try hard to keep them clean but they are so outdated it was shameful. Location of the site is pretty good for going out (personally could not stay onsite for a whole day) but most people used the site for a stop over. We had 4 new neighbours over the 4 nights we stayed. Some may like it but we will not be going back. The cost was just under £100 with the 5%tax but the facilities were very poor. sorry.

Great Site and Team, If in Need of Some Refurbishment

Had a great long weekend stay recently, the site team were brilliant, friendly, welcoming and very organised. The site is well placed for a short (3 mile) walk into Winchester with all it has to offer, plus a range of walks such as the South Downs Way. The site was generally quiet and isn't too big, but the facilities are overdue a bit of TLC. Decor is tired, lights are old and tiles are cracked, but the team keep it all clean, in spite of the tiredness. Will definitely return.
