Is there anything that a first time visitor needs to know about this site?
Its over priced and over populated and needs thinning out by about 25%.
We agree and concur with the comments made by ‘Mature Couple’ who, we feel, are a little generous with their Rating.
The facilities are dated and are slightly better than Middlewood farm, but no-where near the standard of York Marina.
We will definitely ‘not’ be staying at this site again and will be choosing any one of the plethora of near-by CL (and independent) sites.
Oh and if you’ve got a Van over 2 foot 6 be careful of the Yellow telegraph Post, (its been taped up ''in Yellow tape' because people keep catching it) which is (in)conveniently situated on the inside bend of a sharp corned.
Quiet pretty site, perfect for touring the area
As others have said, access the site from Harmby and ignore any other satnav instructions (we didn't!). This is a very pretty site, less regimented than many others since it's built on the site of a former quarry and is multi-level with many trees. Electricity can be an issue, but we solved this by running our fridge on gas and had no trouble running a fan heater in our awning. TV reception was down but we don't use TV when camping. A footpath runs almost directly to a very pleasant and traditional pub, and Leyburn is just a mile away. We did two good hikes while there, and thoroughly enjoyed them. The toilet block is dated but clean, and frankly doesn't deserve some of the comments it's attracted. One of our favourite sites.
Amazing Holiday
The site is lovely and quiet. Surrounded by beautiful views. The staff are incredible we had problems with our caravan electrics and the staff were so kind and helped us solve the problem. The facilities are so clean and the site is a short walk to Leyburn town. We would definitely recommend this site we had a wonderful stay. Thankyou

Mature Couple
Spent 2 nights here in early October. We were at the end of a holiday in Scotland, having stayed at 7 CLs, and this site reminded us of why we prefer CLs. Vans close together, some noise from nearby vans, rather scruffy (no fault of the wardens, just the mixture of stoned hardstandings and grass). Did not use the facilities so cannot comment on those. Pleasant walk across fields to Leyburn, which should be an interesting town but spoit by the vast amount of traffic. Good outing to Aysgarth Falls and Jervaulx Abbey.
A perfect site for accessing the best of Lower Wensleydale.
This site is ideally situated to access the Town of Leyburn (on foot), which provides access to 'The Little White Bus' which you can use to access Hawes, Ripon, Bedale, Masham, Richmond and many other areas of the Yorkshire Dales and beyond. Probably the best real pub (Not food) is within 5 minutes walk. Open twice a day and serving good ales and spirits (cash only), but welcoming all, including pets.
The site itself is always well run and maintained and there is a choice of pitches (under trees, in the open, elevated, secluded). The staff are extremely helpful and outgoing.
The entrance road puts many off, but I have always approached it carefully and thoughtfully and had no issues. I am aware that people following Sat-nav when approaching from Bellerby have been directed down the narrow lane past Cow Close Farm. Do not do it. Travel into Leyburn and take the A684 towards Bedale. The ONLY way in is the minor road in front of The Pheasant Inn at Harmby (1 mile from Leyburn), over a bridge then left up the hill to the site gate.
I love this site and this area. This is not Hawes and has its own character.
Not satisfactory.
Visit was meant to be a week, no detriment to the retiring wardens but I personally would have appreciated a phone call/ email to explain about the area tv transmitter being down for several weeks and possibly another 2 weeks according to the landlord of the Pheasant Inn, this coupled with the fact the only WiFi on site is on a bench outside the office we cut our stay short after 3 nights (7 booked). We enjoy tv in our van especially when it’s poor weather or just want to relax. So if you have a booking before the site closes check before you go.
NO WIFI
We have just spent two weeks on this site. Its nice…if you like quiet….and gravel.
Facilities good if a little dated. Very clean. They have removed the shower curtains so water goes everywhere but squeegy provided to clear up just spreads it around. Mop and bucket would be better. Nice location - near to Leyburn. We walked and cycled from the site.
The site is in the trees and there isnt much grass so its all a bit harsh but i guess its good when it rains.
So…our real bugbear. On the website it lists wifi in the facilities. It doesnt mention it is simply a hotspot and you have to sit on a bench outside reception. This was a problem as I was supposed to be working for part of my holiday but I couldnt. It would have been fine if this was made clear. We just saw the word wifi in the facilities list and thought it would be site wide as it is in most places these days. We had a fab holiday but wont stay here again. It just wasnt our sort of site. I am sure it would suit others though.
Access
We were initially daunted by the prospect of a single track uphill with a bend to access the site but it was only very short and was no problem whatsoever. The site itself was handy for a walk into Leyburn for supplies which had all the types of shops you could possibly want. There is a nice walk from the market place up behind the town called the Leyburn Shawl and there is a waterfall opposite the site. We visited Hawes on market day too.

Happy to visit again
Enjoyed returning to this site which we have stayed at several times before. Pleased to see the new hand driers and new shower heads - we are perfectly happy with the facilities to be honest and are aware the site is privately owned so updates are limited. The only reason the floor floods is people direct the shower head to 45 degrees so it sprays everywhere - directed straight down it works fine!
We will be back again no doubt when we visit our friends in Wensleydale. Prefer this site to Hawes which we went on to straight after as there are separate areas rather than long lines of vans though it is further to walk into town. The new dog walking area is a good addition, though we are happy walking along the quiet lane.
Beautiful flowers outside reception too.
Love this site. BUT!
Returned to this site middle of August and just as we remembered a tranquil quiet site with only Gerald resident peacock calling first thing from a tree outside our van.
Only problem with this site are the shower block is in need of rebuilding although the wardens keep it clean has had its day.
And as there’s no benches they do need more than one plastic stool that’s shared by all showers also more hooks and a small hand rail would benefit.
Plus side tho are the lovely walks that are printed in tourist kiosk that’s a nice touch. We did the one for 20p air ambulance donation that goes around back of site into Leyburn over few fields. That has great far reaching views.
Leyburn is within walking distance on a safe footpath and has a few nice pubs with good food. Plus pub just down toad was nice for a pop in on way bsck to the van but does close between 3-7pm.
Will return but only when shower block refurbed.
