Natural and Peaceful
Marvellous location with pitches in wooded or open areas, hard standing or grass. Plenty of walks without having to drive off site. Chirk Castle is well worth a visit. Its 700 years old but isn’t a ruin, so there’s lots to see. You could easily spend half a day just in the gardens, exploring and enjoying the views. The castle is a 2 mile pleasant walk from the site but does have a car park for those who prefer to drive there. The site is well maintained but the toilet block, although clean, could do with updating. There is, however, an annex to the main toilet block and that is closed for cleaning at a different time to the main block. What a great idea. Rabbits, squirrels and birds are abundant throughout the site, as are rabbit holes, but there are metalled roads and well-worn tracks to avoid the rabbit holes. This site is an ideal location for the Horse Shoe Pass, Horse Shoe Falls, Llangollen Steam Railway, Chirk Castle and the Chirk Aquaduct. The latter is not for the faint hearted if you want to cross it on foot or by boat, but you can get to both ends without fear.
