Very peaceful with some great walks up into the hills and along to the visitors centre. Unfortunately the weather wasn't kind so I didn't explore as much as I wanted.
One of the best
We stayed here in May 2022. The facilities were well kept and always clean no matter what time of day. Plenty of short walks, long walks, and in-between walks 😉. The wardens were one of the best couples we have met...always time for a chat and a friendly smile. Our only gripe...and this funny, it's on the NC 500 route and Motorhome traffic was awful. I can understand why some locals get fed up. (We also have a Motorhome) 😁 Great site, would definitely revisit if in the area.
Pleasant site
Pleasant site ideal for NC 500.Good location , next door is a garage with cafe and shop.Site is well laid out with good views of mountains.
Wardens were very friendly, in information room had left sheets with local walks on and plenty of other info which was very useful.
Showers and other facilities were excellent, showers had curtain and a stool in them and plenty of hooks.
Site is next to a road so dependant on your pitch can hear some traffic.
Only criticism is there were not enough bins in one service point so were often full.
Great location for many places of interest in the area.
Stunning Location
We did the NC500 last year and this visited bits we wanted to see so booked two nights originally we extended it to three as the Camping and Caravan Club at Loch Ness was awful packed in like sardines. When we arrived at Kinlochewe it was like a breath of fresh air lots of room on the pitch we spent 3 days off the grid it was wonderful great dogs walks on and off site fantastic circular walks provided in the information room yes the shower block is a bit tired but spotless none the less we would definitely return
A VERY quiet place
We have been doing the NC500 and decided to stop off here. We stayed for 2 nights to have a break from driving.
The site was nice and tidy and the wardens friendly and helpful. The shower facilities whilst perfectly functional, the could do with an update.
The following comments may not be helpful to some members.
Communications on site were VERY poor! My phone had no signal whatsoever (Three) similarly my MiFi had no signal, my wife’s phone (Virgin) only had GPRS which meant no texts or internet, but a call could be made. I tried to book another site, for our next stop, I was asked to email, I had to explain I was unable to do so, nor was I able to look for sites on the web.
The TV booster could have been better and given more channels. Normally if I am on site with poor TV signal, I will use my Amazon Firestick, but without the internet, this was not available. I was told the site WiFi was not the best.
A local cafe/restaurant was closed for the duration of the stay.
These issues are not the fault of the site, but had I known of these, I would have only stayed the one night.
Whilst I am aware some folks would be happy for no internet etc, this was not for me.
Excellent site, great location, very clean
We stopped off in Kinlochewe as part of our NC500 trip and stayed for 1 night. Very helpful wardens, huge level hardstanding pitches and beautiful location.
My only recommendation for improvement would be the showers. They’re small cubicles with no storage or shelving areas to put things off the floor, the showers trays are set quite high so if you’re tall (I’m 6ft1) you will hit your head on the shower curtain bar and need to duck under the shower. General maintenance was needed as rips in the vinyl floor have been taped over.
We would be back!
Will be back!
Sharon and Simon were exceptional staff. They made the stay perfect. Stunning location, great for exploring the Torridon area. Site beautifully kept and maintained. Toilet and dishwashing facilities very well maintained and very clean. Beautiful views around the site. Lovely wee dog walk in the site which the dogs loved. Great walks from the site. Will definitely come back. Loved it.
Nice peaceful site
We stayed at Kinlochewe for a couple of nights whilst we were touring Scotland and absolutely loved it. The walks from site are fantastic and there are print outs of the different walks in the information hut which you can take away with you, which is really useful. Very friendly and helpful wardens and facilities up to the normal high standards. The site is next door to a petrol station which sells a few essentials, and has a nice little cafe. We booked a table at the hotel in the village (just a few minutes walk away) and had an absolutely amazing meal there, would definitely recommend. I really hope we get chance to go back to this site as I would like more time to do some of the walks from site and explore the area more.
Great central location to explore
Warden on site from 5 pm for new arrivals. It was easy to find a pitch as instructions were posted at reception and pitches were clearly marked and comparable.
The warden was really friendly and helpful on this camc site, got a real sense of them enjoying their job and wanting to make your stay equally enjoyable, which can make a big difference to the overall experience.
Great food and service at The Stag at the Kinlochewe Hotel, which is a short walk from the site and very popular. It is dog friendly and we were told to book ahead due to their licencing.
There's a bus that stops outside the hotel twice a week!
There is also a lovely little cafe next to the fuel station which is left out of the campsite. The pitches near the road can be noisey as it is a popular stop on the NC500
Stunning scenery at Loch Maree and lovely picnic grounds to spend the day and kayak. The road to Torridon was awesome to cycle and take in the changing scenery (lookout for deer at the car park).
The toilet block was small, bit dated but functional and clean.
I would definitely recommend this campsite.
Lovely site in the wilds
A great site in the wilds. Lots of walks in the hills, direct from the site. Very good information available in the "garden shed" on walks and local attractions. Easy access to Torridon and Loch Ewe by car, but lots of single track roads if you go that way! Not for Winnebago drivers.
The staff were wonderful. They were even looking after the dog of an elderly gentleman who fell ill. The recovery firm will take the motorhome but not the dog! Downsides of the site were the wifi only being "hot spot", but it was pretty fast, and the lack of shower curtains which made keeping one's clothes dry in the cubicle an interesting challenge, shall we say. And, yes, it did rain quite a lot, and, yes, there were some midges but it is Wester Ross. We hope to return there before too long (as does the dog).
