Great site, great wardens

Second time this year we have stopped in Kendal o our way north. Though have been visiting the site since 1985! This year had an 8m xcel coachman and the wardens were forewarned so reserved a suitable pitch at the bottom of the site with easy access to get out. Lots of little areas within the trees. Facilities and site were spotless and the wardens work hard to keep them so. National trust have not maintained access road to the site so a number of potholes but CAMC have resurfaced the rest. National trust also have a no mow policy which restricts wardens cutting back areas of foliage though they do the best they can. Wardens are really approachable, know the area and know the site. First Class service. Thank you. We will be back.

TREES ALL AROUND

Our first stay at Kendal was lovely. Once you realise every part of the site is picturesque with trees all around it doesnt matter which pitch you choose. Granted as previous reviews have mentioned there are a few potholes on a small section of the approach road but no worse than many main roads nationwide. A short easy walk to the farm shop and Sizergh Castle is an added bonus. Due to the terrain of this site it is quite a contrast to many club sites and well worth a visit.

Potholes? Yes, but just go round them!

We stayed at Kendal for the third time, in June. Yes the National Trust-owned access road has potholes, but if you just take your time and steer around them there is no problem. We love this site for the surrounding natural woodland with lots of birds and wild flowers. The walks to the castle and the farm shop, or by the River Kent are all really lovely. The staff are super. Just a handful of pitches at the higher end suffer from road noise, but it quietens down overnight. R&C

Kendal

Site easy to get to from M6. Access road into the site is in really poor condition & very narrow. Pitches are being encroached from all sides by brambles, ferns etc & weeds growing through the hard standings.Being in a large wood it must be a nightmare to keep the flora & fauna off the pitches. Other than that a nice place to stay if you like the solitude. Toilet blocks spotlessly clean. Wardens very pleasant & helpful. Good roads to all the lakes. Some a little testing.

Convenient stop off point

Super site. Stopped off en-route when driving down south and have stayed here a few times. Always receive a warm and cheery welcome from the wardens. Stayed in a fully serviced pitch and have no complaints. Short distance to M6 makes it convenient for onward journey

First Class Kendal

Just returned from two wonderful weeks at the Kendal site. The wardens were brilliant, friendly, extremely helpful and very hard working. The pitches are tucked away in amongst beautiful woodland with lots of easy access roads and delightful walks, including the river walk. It is the second time we have stayed at this site and will hope to return. We have just changed our caravan to a large 8ft twin axle, were staying for two weeks (plus awning) but when we first arrived after searching the pitches it seemed that there was nowhere suitable for us, but a word with the wardens Jan and Mick and they got on their radios to solve the problem for us. They kindly arranged to delay some maintenance work they had planned, removed the cones blocking the pitches and took us to a suitable pitch. It was ideal. All the wardens were amazing and were always available for a quick chat or a piece of advice. One day the M6 was closed after an accident and they kept the Reception office open until 9 pm to assist the late arrivals who had been delayed. So thoughtful and helpful. The facilities were immaculate. The area is beautiful with many lovely places to visit, but if you want to see something fascinating take a trip to nearby Arnside, which is delightful in itself, but time it so you can see the bore coming in. The tide rushes up so fast it is mesmerising, then it swirls around and comes back on itself. You might even see the rescue teams practising near the viaduct. Romney's in Kendal is a great pub with yummy food and has a large garden. So once again thanks to all the wardens who helped us have a truly wonderful time in such a peaceful and sunny spot!

Great if you like greenery

Convenient for the M6 & for visiting Sizergh NT. Good very clean facilities. We'll run & very helpful staff. However, we were very disappointed there was no wifi apart from a hotspot in the information room. Also, there are no views of the fells / lakes so we didn't feel like we were in the Lake District. Great for a stop over on the way North / South.

Lovely relaxing site

We stayed for 10 nights on a fully serviced pitch in mid-June 2023. The pros far out way the cons. The setting is delightful with pitches in quiet and peaceful shady glades. Welcoming and friendly staff, clean facilities. Good location from which to explore the South Lakeland area with Windermere and the lake cruises, aquarium, motor museum and heritage railway 30 minutes away and Coniston Water only a little further. Thoroughly recommend Sunday roast at the very nearby Strickland Arms. Points to be aware of - the single track approach road is poorly maintained and pot holed (probably not Club owned). The site TV booster is tuned to the Kendal relay mast which only transmits 16 DTV channels (including radio stations). The trees may make satellite and your own TV aerial reception impossible. Perhaps the Club could consider site booster re-alignment to the main TV transmitter at Lancaster. Some site routes around the 2 toilet/shower blocks maybe very steep for those with difficulties walking. Finally, the birds start singing around 4am. It's beautiful to hear but just be warned if you're a light sleeping, non-morning person!!

Mr Pothole

As previously mentioned the potholes in the lane leading to the site are appalling, sort them out!

Not for me

On arrival on a narrow lane with some pot holes that are ridiculous the receptionist was very polite and helpfull as was the gentleman directing arrivals .we booked 2 nights on a blue peg via a phone call on our way back home from the Lakes. The blue pitches are a joke one in particular no34 you need leveling blocks which we still found not suitable so we moved to another pitch although not great we pitched there the blue peg pitches I know are for no awnings but some are very tight or not Level which bugs me because their is no information in the club guide book about sloping pitches and levelling blocks required. The facilities as per usual are excellent WiFi rubbish. You either like forest sites or you don't for me it's more the pitches aren't you usual standard for clubs clubsites to much shale and no grass mabe had I booked a white peg pitch I may feel different but unlikely. I know I'm in a minority on this review but because we where unfamiliar with the site layout and because you couldn't define where the good pitches where you driving around hunting for the needle in the haystack . deff don't pick a blue peg if your going to stop here unless you have a camper van. And deff take some leveling ramps with you. Would I stay here again .....unlikely but that is no reflection on the staff they are great the site for me isn't . Pitches should be at the same standard when the prices are the same and at £32 a night I don't expect to start having to level up my caravan On the toss of a coin if I get a flat pitch or not,. In 40 yrs of caravaning if the sites not level I don't go on it unless I use a C/L site in which case I pay the appropriate pitch fee.
