Beautfiul site

We have just returned from a week at this lovely site and could not recommend it highly enough. The toilets are kept immacutely clean as is the overall appearance of the site. There are many places to visit close by and Ilminster is a beautiful little town. It's a shame that a lot of people use this site as a stop over, as there are many great places to visit locally. The sea is only approx 17 miles away and there are several National Trust properties within easy reach. The Otter Valley is just on the doorstep. We have been back around 4 times to this site and will definitely go back. If you want peace, quite and spectacular countryside then this is the site for you. Only regret is not living a little closer to this site, as we would definitely look at having a seasonal pitch here.

Ilminster Caravan Site - A gem

We had a seasonal pitch on this site last year. This was our first year of caravanning and we couldn't have picked a better introduction. The wardens Jill and Pete were extremely helpful. The site has a wonderful toilet and shower block. It is fairly new but it is kept spotless. The site is in an ideal position just off the A303. When you have driven from Kent, a 3 hour journey on a good day the last thing you want is to drive miles down country lanes. Despite this, there is very little road noise. It is a level grassy site, which is mowed regularly and kept in a good condition. We have 2 dogs which were made to feel very welcome. The dog exercise site is perfectly adequate for quick toilet trips. As it is fully enclosed, dogs can perform their business off lead. A brilliant site!

Lovely quiet site

Stayed here for 6 nights until this morning. Handy location for visiting Dorset, Devon and Somerset, peaceful day and night. Nice new toilet block with 5 showers, 5 toilets and just 3 privacy cubicles which seems a bit more proportion than many sites. We were lucky and had no problems getting out onto the A303.

GREAT LITTLE SITE , THE ONLY PROBLEM, PEOPLE SEEM TO USE IT AS A HALF WAY HOUSE , SO LOTS OF EARLY MORNING NOISE WITH PEOPLE DE-CAMPING. BUT DON'T LET THIS PUT YOU OFF, IT WAS FANTASTICALY MAINTAINED AND SUPERBLY CLEAN..THE LANE IS A BIT TIGHT AND DEVO NEEDS A BETTER INDICATION OF SITE. NICE LOCAL PUB NEAR BY, AND A SHORT TRIP TO BEACH SIDE..

The Pros and The Cons

This was our first visit to the site - easy access from the A303 (although a C and MH sign would be helpful at the turn). Level site with a choice of hardstanding or grass pitches (some seasonal). Brand new toilet block which provided everything necessary. Dog area was an enclosed piece of land in the corner of the site - OK for morning/night toileting. Plenty of walking from the site along exceptionally quiet lanes many of which afforded lovely views of the Blackdown Hills. The easy access from the A303 meant that there was some traffic noise - it is an exceptionally busy road!! The location of the site also attracts many one nighters travelling to or from the West Country. Some were incredibly inconsiderate - on one morning we had two units packing up either side of us at 4.30 am and 5.30 am respectively - oblivious/couldn't care less about the noise they were making and that others on the site were on holiday. Would probably use the site again if in the area.

Don't expect good dog walks.

The site, in terms of peacefulness, cleanliness and attractiveness, is wonderful. What lets it down is the dog exercise area. I understand this has been added at the request of visitors but it is tiny and doesn't allow for proper exercise, just a place for a dog to relieve itself. There are no dog walks from site as the local farmer has blocked the PUBLIC FOOTPATHS, putting locked gates across them and planting right up to field edges. If they were available it would make all the difference to people with dogs staying on site. Perhaps the CC could take this up with the local council as it is illegal for the farmer to block them. I agree with other reviews about the length of the grass. It is not because it doesn't get cut; it is the height setting on the mower which is too high. If you are intending to stay on a grass pitch, make sure you bring your wellies for dewy mornings or your feet will be soaked walking over to the toilet block! All in all, a lovely site, which is let down by the lack of facilities for dogs.

Peaceful site

Lovely quiet site, a stop off point to Cornwall, for us. Great relax by the BBQ, on the open grass pitch. Very clean site and toilet block.

A relaxing stay

Lovely quiet, peaceful site. Friendly and well maintained with most pitches in sunny positions. Excellent facility block which wardens keep spotlessly clean. Good base for touring and visiting the many attractions (including National Trust properties) in the surrounding area. Really need to drive from the site, however, as village, shops and eating places are not too close and the roads are busy.
