Took the grandkids away for half term but didn't want to spend hours in the car so decided on Hurn lane, being only a couple of hours away.
The ratings we have posted tell it all. The wardens were all very friendly and nothing was too much trouble.
The site was spotless, as were the toilet blocks. We had a grass pitch by the park for the children and although there were quite a few children using it the noise from the play area was not intrusive.
The only small draw back was the lane to the beach is narrow and winding with no footpath, not very good for walking with kids. It is an easy drive with car parks on the beach so that wasn't too much of a problem.
It gets a thumbs up from us and the kids.
Regards Mick Sutton
The site is lovely but set in an ocean of static caravans. I suspect it will be noisy in high season. The beach is a short walk away but is poor, with many warnings on safety. In know the caravan and motorhome club can do nothing about its neighbours but potential visitors should be aware of the location etc
We have just spent 10 nights at Hurn Lane with our little Tibetan Spaniels. The dog walk is dreadful, so tiny. We usually use Cirencester Park a lot where the dog walk is fantastic as we can let the dogs off the lead and they have a good run round. Since we arrived there has been dog mess in the dog walk twice where people are too lazy to clean up despite there being a bin close by and signs on the gate. On the Sunday there were fireworks from an adjacent site. Although this only lasted about 10 minutes our dogs were absolutely traumatised, it was so close it sounded like a bomb had gone off. When we opened the door to see where they were going off we could hear other dogs crying because of the fireworks. It was a dreadful night. Although the site is kept very tidy It does need a larger area for dogs. We saw many people walking their dogs across grass as there is nowhere to give them a good walk unless you go off site where there is no paths and blind corners.
first visit to Hurn lane over the Easter weekend
not good first impressions wardens in charge not very helpful unlike the helpers
site its self laid out well and tidy you would need to pick your pitch carefully as some back on to a residential site and can be noisy,
toilets are only cleaned and replenished once a day really not enough when busy so you would need to pick your visiting times carefully
and take your own loo roll
found wardens very clicky with regulars
this is a site we would revisit
Facilities were very clean, we used the toilet block and dishwashing more than usual during a four night stay as we had a problem with water in the caravan. Always clean and we didn't have to queue. Site was fairly full as this was Easter bank holiday. We had a pitch in the middle which was on a corner and felt quite private. There is noise from the adjoining static holiday parks . Some pitches along the edge are very close to to the statics and I would want to avoid those. There is a play park for smaller children and a ball court. A very very small dog walk by the play areas. A walk to the beach along a narrow road with bends which could be tricky with small children, through a lovely nature reserve to the beach - about 10 - 15 minutes. We went for long walks on Brean Down, which was beautiful with a very interesting Victorian fort which was also used in WW2, and along Cheddar Gorge from the National Trust information centre. Also long walks along the beaches. Tides go out a very long way leaving mud and quicksand. The wardens were friendly, efficient and helpful and had organised an Easter treasure trail for younger children.
We stayed for three nights over Easter, the site was nice but unfortunately the same can’t be said for the wardens who were unfriendly and unhelpful most unlike any wardens we have met on previous sites, who normally can’t do enough to help. No information given about motorhome facilities on arrival and when we asked for information on local dog walks, we were just told to go to the beach, accurate but nor helpful as we like to explore the local areas. The site was clean and tidy with good size pitches but unfortunately let down by the lack of cleanliness in all the toilets both ladies and gents, not a site we will be returning to.
Arrived for Easter , met by lovely wardens , knew we wanted to be next door to our friends , they pointed us to two grass pitches together , toilets lovely and clean showers lovely and warm , dog walk area very small , however lovely walks near by and so close to the lovely beach walks , where you can let dogs off the leads . Totally recommend this site everyone very friendly and the Wardens were so friendly .
This is a nice site with a lot of good sized hard standing pitches and a clean well maintained facilities block. The dog walk is a very small area and suitable only for a late night early morning use and the road outside site is very narrow and not really suitable for walking dogs.
There was quite a lot of noise from adjacent sites at the weekend which could be annoying in school holidays and very busy periods. We stayed here the first week of April and would have extended our stay for a further five nights had the prices not jumped up by nearly £10 per night two weeks before Easter.
We have stayed at Hurn Lane four times this year and have not yet found anything to complain about. We love it there as the ground is flat and we stayed on Service pitches which are very spacious. All amenities are exceptionally clean and the site is kept tidy at all times. It centres many places of interest but is lovely just to stay on the site. The wardens are very friendly and helpful and nothing is too much trouble for them. They work very hard so we can all enjoy our stays there.
We enjoyed 4 nights here in early September on a serviced pitch, which was very good. The wardens were friendly and looked after the site very well. We enjoyed fish and chip night.
It was nice to be able to walk to the beach down the lane in about 10 mins, although there is no footpath. We also walked the 4 miles down the beach to the cafe at Brean.
We shall visit again.
