I can't really see the problem with having to wait if you arrive early.
We have, when we haven't been able to avoid it been early on the odd occasion and have had no problem in waiting. In fact if the it's safe and of no problem to anyone else actually have stroll to recce the site.
The vast majority of site wardens we've dealt with have been friendly, helpful and are very usually busy on site. As someone has already mentioned maybe some of we site users could be a little more careful of how we leave facilities.
The one thing we have noticed of late is that some members are quite tardy towards leaving the site by 12 noon. Plus some seem very lax with etiquette on site.
Lets be honest the vast majority of wardens do a great and pretty thankless job and maybe we as site users maybe should be looking at our own performance a little more.
Just a thought.

So why the objection to being asked to wait. It's not as if they were turned away. It does after all state earliest arrival 12:00 on the web page.

I do not make a habit of arriving at sites early and I would have pulled in somewhere if able. I felt somewhat aggrieved because there was no logical reason for me to be stuck in the arrivals lane awaiting the permission of the warden in order to book in. I would have preferred it if they had told me to pull into the late arrivals area until noon, but I was told to wait for the warden to grant his permission, not knowing when that would be.
And by the way some sites seem to like early arrivals. Last year I phoned one to seek the OK to arrive 30 mins early in order to catch a bus from the site, and was told I could arrive anytime after 10am because they could not handle lots arriving at noon with queues backing onto the main road.

I too would try where possible to arrive on time and indeed do particularly in Germany where they sometimes have the long lunch but what I would take great exception to would be being told to wait "until we are ready" when it was patently unnecessary.

Wouldn't bother me David. I appreciate that the wardens may have other things to do prior to 12:00, other than check me in. (hence the stipulated earliest arrival time) Unlikely to happen now in any event The Motorhome is a lot easier to park up than 12 metres of car / caravan.😀

And that’s exactly the way to do it - ring and ask permission to arrive early. 👏🏻
I’m not necessarily meaning you, Lis, but several sites have limited access and it beats me that some folk think it’s OK to arrive early and cause congestion at the entrance. It’s ARRIVAL time that’s restricted, not check in time.

However this is hypothetical as its never happened to us or be likely to.

Im sorry to come back to this but responders seem to think I turned up early intentionally. I did not, but as I explained I could not find a lay-by and for those who know the site and area it is not a place to be aimlessly driving around to use up time, too many roads end up at ferry crossings.
As for phoning the site ahead of time, I would have if I could find a place to park in order to look up number from the handbook and use my mobile.
My issue was that the site was. not busy, the assistant warden asked me to walk around and find a pitch, which I did, then she said she could not book me in until the warden returned to the office and gave his permission.
Well, he did return the office and he did not give his permission until Id be waiting 30 minutes. There was no logic as the site was quiet, no grass being cut, nothing to stop me pitching except awaiting his OK.
At the end of the day I got over it and overall was more concerned about the restricted number of toilet cubicles. And to answer an earlier comment the other toilet block was open, but that misses the point.

There’s only one ferry, Lis 😀
You're obviously not familiar with the area but there are wider roads and places to stop further back towards Paignton but it’s a bit late now.
What I’m really wondering is why you put up with inadequate toilet provision without discussing it with the warden. He/she could have explained the situation to you (which we can’t) and may not have realised that there weren’t enough cubicles open.
