Good location for Torbay

We have stopped at this site a few times and like the proximity to the towns of Paignton, Torquay and Brixham.  Brixham is a pretty harbour with good fish restaurants which are reasonably priced.  It was cheaper to have a taxi than the bus, about £7 each way, for us as a family with 2 teenagers.  The site can be noisy, but we have always been at peak season.  Never waited for showers.  The clubhouse has entertainment every night, with something for everyone.  A fair menu, food and drink prices were no dearer than we pay at our local, good value if you go at happy hour! Lots to do in the area with good discounts available, will visit again.

We just love this site and the surrounding area

This is a gem of a site, the site manager is so lovely, and even rescued our dog when he escaped! This site is clean, tidy and even when full we did not wait for the showers. We have stayed here several times as we love the surrounding areas and the peacefulness of the nearby coves and beaches. Sheer bliss, the only down side to this site is having to return home!

Brilliant Family Site

We have just spent 2 weeks at Hillhead, we have had a lovely time with our two children aged 3 and 5, we did lots of day trips and still felt there was loads to see in the area. The Steam Train to Paignton was great - nice and short so the children really enjoyed it without getting bored. Paignton was not really to our taste but fun on the beach for the kids. We loved Dartmouth and went on foot using the bus service and in the car and used the park and ride, both were fine and crabbing was great in Dartmouth. The Golden Hind in Brixham was worth a look round nd some good restaurants and cafes there too. Paignton Zoo was absolutely fabulous, we will go again! Pennywell Farm the other side of Totnes was fab with the mini pig racing and tractor rides! We resorted to the Wizzkids softplay in Brixham once and the kids loved it and got rid of some pent up energy on a very wet day! We went to Plym Valley near Plymouth Town Centre for a bike ride, we hired a tandem from the Bike bus and the staff there were brilliant, the ride took us 7 miles each way and our 5 year old managed all 14 miles on his islabike! Its downhill all the way back which helps and free parking! I'm a keen runner and mountain Biker and found the site location was good for running if you like roads, but I kept off main roads and went on lanes towards Coleton Fishacre, I ran to the Coastal path a few times but BEWARE it is very very steep and I am a fell runner from the Peak District - it isn't for the faint hearted! Riding our bikes Up Penhill Lane was extremely tricky - if you can ride up that then hats off to you! The wardens did a fabulous job, especially as some ladies were disgusting in their bathroom habits - come on ladies sort it out! We stayed on the top field where the larger pitches are and found our side (pitch 252) was very dry but the other side flooded. All in all the entertainment was good our kids loved it and the 2p slots! Food from the restaurant was varied but we never had a bad meal. All in all recommended and we will return!

Family Fun!

We found this to be a very friendly & well run site, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The pool is lovely & warm & is a great rainy day activity! The children's entertainment was excellent & we loved that the amusements were really inexpensive. I am not keen on the way you chose your pitch, it seamed to be a 'rush' to get the best plot on a Saturday lunchtime. This added an extra bit of 'stress' after a long car journey with children.

Very popular site

This site is good, but definitely not the best I've been to. It's a busy site, with lots of friendly people, but being so popular puts a strain on the facilities i.e the toilet blocks. These are looking very tired and need updating asap. In my opinion it could do with another toilet block being built to cope with such heavy demand as its such a popular site. The staff here are very friendly, and do their best to make you feel welcome. The kids play area is fantastic, and the pool is brilliant. The shop, bar and restaurant are good and very handy.

Great Break at Hill Head

This visit was primarily to take our 10 year old grandson away. The site was perfect for his needs, great play area, heated outdoor pool and plenty of children to play with. All the facilities were good although we did feel that the bar and meal prices were a bit overpriced compared to pubs and restaurants in the area. Our visit was greatly enhanced by several days of sunshine!! It's a lovely spot with great sea views.

Avoid arriving on a Saturday

We really like this site and this was our third visit as Its a great location for visits to Dartmouth and Brixham. However if there is a next time we will avoid arriving at the weekend as it is absolute chaos. There isn't any planning of allocating pitches. The site have details of outfit sizes etc. so why not allocate pitches that are suitable rather than letting numerous vehicles tour round the site looking for the best pitches. Allocating would eliminate the rush of arrivals at midday and before.

Hillhead Campsite

We stayed at Hillhead from 8.8.15 to 21.8.15.  The site was well kept and the facilities with the pool, bar and shop were really good. The wardens seemed to keep themselves to themselves so can't really comment on that other than they were pleasant when we checked in. The laundry facilities were good although it was a bit of a pain that if your washing wasn't ready for 11 when the toilet block was cleaned the cleaners wouldn't  let you wait for 5 mins for your load to finish. I have to say that the toilets and showers were the dirtiest I have ever used whilst staying on club sites. Some mornings you had to try two or three toilets/showers to be able to find a clean one. I appreciate it is not the wardens' fault but with the number of people that use the showers/toilets they could maybe have been cleaned early mornings as well or checked at least. I don't think we would visit here again as we have stayed on other sites that we enjoyed more - which is a shame as it is in a beautiful location

Great family site

We have just had a 5 night stay which we really enjoyed, the facilities are fantastic especially the heated pool. The only problem i found was the toilets were not very clean. The problem is that they get cleaned around lunchtime and not touched until the following day. The toilet block is very busy and next to Restaurant/Bar so you can imagine what it gets like after 24 hours. Surely it could be cleaned early morning as well so it is nice and clean for people wanting showers etc first thing.
