Always brilliant

Great site, amazing location with some of the best views on the site network. Immaculately maintained especially given the size of the site. The weather was good for our stay, it's a shame that the pool wasn't open.

Superb site

In our opinion this site is superb. Immaculately kept with courteous and very hard working staff. It has every facility you could possibly want. We shall certainly be returning.A real bonus was the bar and restaurant being open every evening even in October and a regular bus service at the entrance.

Great

Clean, tidy and very happy site.  Staff very friendly.  Site has everything you need. Even the washing up is done indoors.  The showers and loos were clean and we'll designed.  Loved the pitches with the hedges for privacy.  Even in October the shop had good stock.  Even a tent peg remover!  Burgers from the resturant were fantastic. The laundry was priced better than in town.  Site in a fantastic location.  Bunnies at night were sweet to watch.  Nothing but praise about the site.

Brilliant Time

I was on this site for 3 nights this October on my own with my dog. Fantastic facilities, clean, tidy and well cared for. Excellent service from Reception staff. Bus stop just outside site gates and it takes you all over - so not stuck for anything to do. Will definitely visit again and look forward to it.

"Top" Location

As the name suggests this site is located on the top of a hill about half way between Brixham and Kingswear where you can get a ferry across to Dartmouth. Immediately outside the entrance are bus stops to both towns with roughly a half hour service in both directions. The site is immaculate with excellent clean facilities located in two amenity blocks. Being located on the top of a hill the views are tremendous both towards the coast and across the surrounding countryside. Both grass and hard standing pitches are available generally grouped into small areas surrounded by hedging. The is an excellent childrens' play area and a separate playing field that overlooks Brixham. From the sites you can walk both into Briham and Kingswear along the coastal path although to get onto the path there are a couple of steep hills. We walked into Brixham and apart from one very steep hill climbing up from the first cove it is a relatively easy walk. Fully recommend this site and will visit again if only to walk to Kingswear.

great 2 weeks at hillhead

we have just returned from a 2 week break at hillhead we had a great time very clean and tidy site friendly staff, we would stay here again. it is great for our 2 dogs with the dog field on site and the many walk's near to the site.   my only issue's were the small number of driver;s who did not understand what a speed limit of 5mph is and some dog owner's who don't clean up after there dog's which give's responsible dog owner's a bad name.

The Caravan Club lose the Plot (pitch)

On arrival we were welcomed to the largest campsite in the network and told that there were plenty of pitches available. Our hopes were soon dashed when we found that many pitches were not available to us as we were over six metres long and not disabled. This site appeared to have more disabled pitches than the rest of the network put together. We quick realised that only grass pitches were free and most of those were muddy. We found what we thought was the best pitch available but the doormat disappeared into the mud after a few hours.  A couple with a caravan turned up the next day on the pitch next to us, myself and two other helpers managed to get his caravan sited despite the mud but when he went to park his car it went in up to its axles. The wardens said they couldn't tow him out do to Health and Safety and insurance issues but would come to see what they could do to help. If this is the case that when you get stuck on a pitch the Caravan Club can not tow you out, if that's the only to free yourself, then the Caravan Club are selling pitches that are unfit for purpose. Regarding the issue of so many disabled pitches we found out that what you have to do is go back to reception and plead your case that you don't like grass pitches and then you will be given of the hard standing pitches used for the disabled right next to the toilet block' Another issue is that when we left at about 1030hrs new arrivals were turning up, We have now found that this happens on every site we have been to because the Caravan Club Head Office have told wardens to let them in. If only the CC knew the problems that this caused. I suspect that the people who break the rules and turn up early are the same people who break the speed limit and pass me on the motorway.

Exceptional Site

This is, without any shadow of a doubt one of the best CC sites I have ever visited in over 30 years membership.  Well cared for, large pitches, excellent facilities, friendly welcoming staff and wonderful views. Nico's restaurant was excellent - good pricing and fabulous food. The toilet block we used was immaculate AND with underfloor heating in the showers - brilliant!  Never had to wait for any of the block facilities. I have only one criticism - it's time they put an effective silencer on their mowing machine - two days out of 5 the peace and quiet was shattered by this ridiculously noisy machine! I would highly recommend this site - no idea how it copes in the main school Summer Holiday period, but at the end of September it was great! (5 nights, no rain all the time we were there and beautiful sunny days if a little windy). If you have a Motorhome you don't want to move while you're there, the bus stop right outside the site is perfect for Brixham, Paignton and the Dartmouth river crossing  and once you get to Paignton the buses from the bus station go virtually everywhere in the South Hams and wider - you cab easily get to Plymouth if wanted! If you have never been to Hillhead, then go - you wont be disappointed.

Sunny and damp

Stayed for 6 days in September, weather was sunny but rain at night most days. This made the site quite wet on grass pitches. We have 2 dogs, so muddy paws became a problem ! (And muddy footwear). Bar and restaurant were pleasant enough and handy on site. Had major WiFi problems (lower end of site). Reported to wardens who could do little, and reported twice to WiFi Support line. Had to come to upper part of site to get connection. Roads in area prone to be very busy, and narrow in places. Had a nice pitch with a sea view, but extracting the caravan proved a challenge. Wet grass did not help ! Probably fine for families during season, but not sure I would visit again.
