Pros and cons at Haycraft
Pros
Exceptionally sincere and personal welcome on arrival from lady warden (perhaps the best we have had in 20 years of caravanning)
Good position on Isle of Purbeck for Corfe Castle (walkable by footpath) and Swanage. There are some fantastic walks around Studland Bay with many nature reserves just a short drive from the site.
Steam railway station 5 mins walk.
Great dog walk (one way!) and well mown field for ball throwing.
Toilet block old but kept exceptionally clean.
Cons
Hard standings laid out like a multi storey car park with little room between pitches. On one side we had a neighbours car parked on the grass 3 feet away from our awning, on the other side a neighbours washing line a similar distance from our car! Caustrophobic for a CMC site!
The site and dog walk overlook a farm scrapyard on one side.
No consistency in enforcing club rules…. We were told to take down a wind break we had put up on the grass, between us and our neighbours, as deemed a fire hazard. Here’s the conversation with the warden:
Warden: “Wind break yours?”
Reply: “Yes”
Warden: “Can’t put it on the grass it’s a fire hazard when left unattended”
Reply: “Sorry I only put it on the grass to prevent my neighbour from parking on the grass right next to our awning”
Warden: “Yes I know they shouldn’t do that. – You pay rent for the gravel area. That's your pitch. The grass is under the control of The Caravan Club. You can put your wind break up on the gravel That's about it really!”
Warden walks off! Interestingly other members had washing lines with clothes left on overnight, a toilet tent and a dog tent on the grass between pitches! One member had a dog area cordoned off on the grass as an extension to their awning, using a wind break!
Strict rules about walking around the dog walk one way. We were told off again for walking round the wrong way. We later found a one way sign on the floor!!!
All might sound petty…but really annoying and to an extent spoilt our 2 week stay. Will we be back? I don’t think so.
Our fifth visit to this lovely site
We love this site, we love the area and the friendly site managers too. Yes, the facilities block is dated (refurbishment has been mentioned as long as we have visited) but it is spotlessly clean, there is plenty of hot water for the showers and they have an amazing water pressure too. There are lots of leaflets and info in the Information Room too. Public footpaths run alongside the site, buses and steam train stop nearby - all perfect for us. We will return and also wish the site manager all the best for the future.

Great Little Site
Stayed here recently (May 2023). Great little site with very helpful wardens.
Toilet block rather dated but spotlessly clean and lots of hot water with good pressure in the showers
Alas no wifi (other than at hot spot outside reception) but appreciate this is due to whole system nationwide being updated.
Plenty of places to visit and lots to do nearby.
Little Gem of a site
This is a little Gem of a Site. The warden’s are incredibly friendly, welcoming and helpful. They work hard to maintain the aging washrooms and showers which are kept spotlessly clean. The caravan club should consider updating these facilities to bring them inline with current club standards. However most importantly the showers have good water pressure and plentiful hot water. The area around the site offers walking access straight off the site, a steam railway station not half a mile away. Corfe Castle and Swanage make good days out.
We stayed from the May Bank holiday weekend to the Coronation weekend.
We are definitely going to return.
Lovely clean, quiet site
Loved our stay at Haycraft, the site was clean and the staff we met friendly. The site was fairly busy but it was very peaceful and the facilities spotlessly clean. We found the shower/toilet block to be absolutely fine, showers hot and pretty powerful and always very clean. Yes they could be updated but we’ve had to use much much worse. It’s a great base for visiting all that the isle of Purbeck has to offer and some nice walks from the site. Would happily visit again.
Great Site
Loved this site. Peaceful and small. Great location. Super friendly staff. Nothing wrong with the facilities at all. Booked to return. Thank you team!
Nice Site
We stayed during bad weather weather but the site was well drained so no problem.
The wardens are very helpful and welcoming and the site is well kept.
Other reviews have been slightly negative about the shower block. The block isn't new but it is well maintained and immaculately clean - the water pressure and heat is superb!
If you are into walking there are many footpaths that are easlily accessible from the site - too many to explore in one visit.
The only slight negative is that the hard standings are very hard - bring some dynamite!
Overall - top site!

this site is great for a base but unless your into going 5 mile walks not alot to get to by foot directly off site
with a walk up a very steep hill to nearest pub which is a 2 mile walk
overall loved our stay here
Tired Location Adults only ?
Having just returned from Haycraft I can say the wardens were great. The facilties were somewhat tired and in need of a revamp. The toilets, although cleaned very well, were in need of an update with only three showers available. The walkways around and close to the toilet block need repairing or replacing as anyone slightly infirm could view it as a trip hazard. And since our last vist the lower field which was available for children to play ball games appeared now to have been changed over to a dog run complete with uncollected dog muck. It was dissappointing for our children. Overall I think the impression given is this site is aimed at the adults only fraternity and of course the must have pooch in tow. To that end we won't be utilising this site going forward.
Gem of a site, not changed in 25 years well done Andie & Al
This has been our go to site for over 25 years when visiting the Isle of Purbeck. Hasn`t changed in that time, but has been kept clean and tidy by the current teams. All of whom go the extra mile to make our stays comfortable.
Special mention to Andi and Al, who have a fantastic and professional approach to all that they do (we all know how challenging some folk are LoL)
A new shower block and updated pitches to cope with modern outfits would be great, but careful what you wish for, we love the peace and views and atmosphere of the site and would suggest a sympathetic update not a bulldozer approach.
Three visits this year and more to come soon.
All the best Tony, Sarah, Dougal and Tallulah.
