Lovely Location

Just enjoyed two weeks at the site, like so many others staying there we have been here on numerous occassions and love the area. Wardens are great, facilities spotless and site well looked after. Loads of great walks and places to go when its not beach weather, great dog walk on site and room for kids to play if you have any with you. The biggest problem is getting a booking as so many people love to come back. That shows how good the area is!

Nice site, excellent wardens.

The site is in a good location, its small and sloping with a narrow, hilly access road.  The facilities are small and in need of an upgrade but the showers have excellent pressure and are kept spotlessly clean. The wardens Trevor and Claire are very helpful and always smiling and deserve credit for their efforts even when the weather was terrible and the site was waterlogged. They both tried very hard to accommodate our motorhome on wet, sloping pitches and eventually got us sorted. Many thanks and will be going again when its drier.

Three Weeks in Swanage.

Having recently returned from a three week stay at Haycraft, in the most dreadful weather we have experienced in the van. We were well impressed with how Trevor and Claire kept the site ticking over in the most difficult conditions, and always with a smile. True the site facilities are overdue for renewal, but are spotless. Owing to incessant rain for weeks some of the grass pitching areas were muddy but wardens went above and beyond to ensure people could move as soon as a suitable pitch became vacant. These two deserve recognition for the hard work they put in, often outside of office hours, well done and we will be back. Tony and Margaret

Convenient for Railway

Disappointed, arrived at 1pm and got offered pitch 4 but started to sink on levelling blocks, moved to 8 and pitch was waterlogged. Luckily we were using train otherwise we would have struggled to get off in a motorhome. Motorhome service point poor and toilets showers need upgrading. Convenient for railway. The grass pitches are no good for motorhomes and considering the club knows the outfit we are in, surprised we ended up there on a grass pitch. Should do away with the first lot of grass pitches for motorhomes as unsuitable. Warden pleasant but will not be returning however convenient.

Small and Compact

A nice site but a little too crowded as there are not any car spaces at the lower level and they park across the end of the caravan. Great staff and a very convenient location for Swanage and Corfe Castle. BEWARE - Having just purchased the Garmin caravan friendly sat nav, endorsed by the Caravan Club, it was very disappointing that it took us down Haycraft Lane from the wrong end resulting in an extremely narrow lane with no passing places and, of course, we met a van coming the other way.

Rural retreat

Good site to tour Dorset with easy access to Swanage, Poole, Bournemouth, Dorchester and Weymouth. Access road can be interesting but at least some of the potholes have been marked for repair. Wardens very helpful and a reasonable walk to nearest well stocked shop at garage on main road. Shame about the weather but not much you can do about that.

Let down as not in with the in crowd.

We arrived on site about 12.30 to be told only 1 pitch left, no.4 which was squeezed in a corner on a bad slope on grass, 3 people had left before we arrived & we later found out that late arrivals on the day before were given 1st choice on nicer pitches before people left the following day, we were given the option to move but would have had to repack & why be unfair to the next day arrivals, what happened to 1st come, nice pitch. Some people we found were being let in on busy days at 11.30. That said the wardens were friendly & the site was in a good location, however we would not use the site again as we obviously don't know the right people for a good pitch. I would suggest they get rid of pitch no.4, it's been squashed in more for money than comfort.

Disappointed

We have to agree with the review left by Aspenshaw. We booked this site well ahead of our visit and arrived on site at around 1pm. Despite this, we were only able to pitch up on one of the grass pitches as you enter the site. Normally this would not be an issue but the recent heavy rain meant that the pitches were very wet and soft. They are also not level by any means so we needed our levelling ramps. These disappeared into the soaking wet grass very quickly which meant our motorhome was at a very uncomfortable compound angle for our first night. We were able to relocate to a hard standing on our second day but our first night was less than enjoyable. We were advised that another member had been contacted by telephone to advise of the conditions there and to say that they would have to accept a grass pitch but we were not.  I also agree regarding the location of the MSP. Ours us a compact motorhome but we were unable to use the drains due to the slope of the road. Finally, we also feel that the pitches need some shrubs or bushes to section them off. Compared to other CC sites this one does have a cramped feel to it. Great shame. We were really looking forward to staying at this site.

Peace & quiet

Just had a very enjoyable 10 day stay on the site. Wardens outstanding; friendly, very helpful and maintain a spotless site. Very good base for visiting the locality. Pleased to have had a very good grass pitch as the hard standing layout appeared very "orderly" and a bit too "formal"; needs a little more greenery between the two levels, eg small hedge, to offset the "clinical" layout and predominance of the gravel hard standings.

Not for us

We have 3 primary requirements from a site; decent pitch, good toilet block, and an easy to use Motorhome Service Point. Unfortunately, this compact site fell down on all three. We were last to arrive on the day [at 3pm] so had the pitch nobody else wanted - a grass pitch showed signs of heavy use without the necessary respite and it sloped [slightly]. The toilet block was cramped - as a number of people mentioned in the site's Comments Book - and did not have enough facilities for the pitches. The MSP was probably in the only available position, at the foot of an incline which meant the large motorhomes ran the risk of grounding. We thought the wardens were a little fussy. The site does have redeeming features including location, cleanliness, plenty of hot water with good pressure, the MSP has a chemical toilet emptying point, flower displays thanks to the wardens, and discounted preserved railway tickets on sale at Reception.  The pitch was one of those things that happen at busy sites, the MSP was not the worst we've used, and the facilities are what they are. If the location suits, then I'd still recommend this site. For us, we won't be back until the CC is able to upgrade it.
