Good Site, the road in, not so.
First impression wasn’t good when I went to book in. The warden (M. Payne) told me that I had a pitch with an awning. I wasn’t putting up an awning so thought that I would let her know that out of courtesy. Well, the sharp reply was “well, that is what you booked”. OK, fair enough, it was, but that was no way to reply, bit rude I thought. “Have you been her before” she then asked. When I said no, she said “Welcome to Hawes” as if she was reading it from a script card; no smiles and no real welcome to be honest. Anyway, I got booked in and found a pitch that suited us. I needed to use the ramps to level us but that happens more often than not so, no problem. The site is located next to a farm and can be rather smelly and noisy at times but that didn’t put us off too much. The facilities were clean but dated so time to refurbish I think. There is a great dog walk on site and many walks direct from the site i.e. no need to drive if you don’t want to. Hawes is a lovely little place only a 10 minute walk from the site. It has many pubs, places to eat and a good supermarket. We had to drive approx. 28 miles in from the M6 to get to Hawes and the road is a nightmare. Very narrow in places and you do not want to meet another vehicle of equal or greater size coming the opposite way. Would I go back? If it wasn’t for the road in, then yes but for that reason only, probably not. However, do not let that put you off, it is a good site in a great location so give it a try.
