Finally made it here
At long last we finally made a booking to stay here. Usually stay at Lower Wensleydale but thought we would give Hawes a try having visited the town many times over the years. Friendly welcome from the wardens and found pitch 17 a good place to choose as bit out of the way. Furthest walk to toilet block though - not ideal when your husband has just done Great North run and you have no onboard facilities in campervan! Disabled toilet is unlocked when the main ones are being cleaned which is helpful. Yes there are farm noises but coming from a rural village we are used to this and find road noise more of a problem at other sites. Ear plugs are handy :) Great dog walk too though some people seemed to think the grass by the toilet block was a better option.
Pubs all booked up for evening meals so we joined friends at the Kings Arms in Askrigg which was excellent. Cafes all busy too on Tuesday for market day but the cafe at the station was great and welcomes dogs. Nice walk across the fields to Hardraw although first bit is on the road (there is a path behind the wall for part of it but its not obvious).
We probably prefer Lower Wensleydale of the two - just because it is smaller and laid out more informally though Hawes is a shorter walk into town.
