Found a gem of a site

What can I say that others have not already?  Yes, the site is a bit remote from civilisation being roughly 4 miles from Armathwaite and 8 from Carlisle, but it is a good base from which to set forth to the Northern Lake District, Solway Firth or Northern Pennines and as others have noted, attraction leaflets can be found in the Information Point.  It is also a good base from which to walk. The Wardens sell a limited range of basic groceries plus ice creams, toilet chemicals etc. The best bit for me as a steam enthusiast was seeing a steam engine at the head of a railtour pass on the Settle and Carlisle Railway which is just below the site. However, we also enjoyed trips out to Hadrian's Wall which is relatively close and for a longer trip we went to Coniston and sailed on the steam yacht "Gondola". Yes, then site does not have a toilet block, but for us it is not a problem as we tend to use our own facilities on sites where a block exists. But everything else is as you would find it on a Club site. Pitches are centred mainly around a central location but there are smaller groups of pitches amongst the trees if you prefer. We had one by the rhododendron bushes which made for a colourful backdrop. On site, there is a red squirrel hide located along the dog walk where if you are patient, you can see them feeding normally at dusk and dawn.  For Twitchers, the site offers endless possibilities as we spotted many different birds.   The Warden team work hard and they arrange for fish and chips (or other local delicacies) to be made available on a Friday evening so many thanks from me for this.   We will certainly use the site again when we next come to Cumbria.
