We stayed here at the end of October. It’s our favourite site. The woods are accessed directly from the site and are a dog heaven. You can walk for miles. We heard owls and lots of birds. We saw deer and squirrels even on the site. It was rather quiet even for this time of year, we do come often. It’s a shame they’ve moved the bins as the service points were only upgraded last year and now that space is wasted. The roofs are great. Tuesday night there’s a Fish and Chip van 10 minutes down the road in Wetheral. Armathwaite is 10minutes in the other direction and has 2 pubs, a Post Office and general store. The railway is the Settle to Carlisle and occasionally steam trains pass through. Great walks in the woods and by the river. If you want city life and shops Carlisle is only a short drive away but we like relaxing in site.
Perfect
From the minute you turn into the site you are greeted with a glimpse of things to come, either from the colourful reception area or the wildlife running about, I was sorry to miss the regular site managers Carol & Mick but the relief managers Mick & Christine were just as popular, pleasant and hard working and kept the site as immaculate as ever. This is one of my favourite go to sites, peace and quiet , woodland walks and it never lets me down, even saw the deer on more than one occasion this visit, just may have time for one more sneaky visit before it closes for the season. Thankyou

Mature Couple
Very pleasant site. Access from M6 needs care, but OK. Very friendly and helpful staff. Generally very peaceful, though use of a leaf blower was noisy and seemed to be totally unnecessary Leaves fall off trees in the autumn and do not stop walking or driving nor look unsightly.
First visit
Just returned from 5 nights at this peaceful site, good dog walking area walks were well signed, enjoyed the fairy trail at night easy to find from m6
Enjoyed the service pitch but the standard ones look good as well
Will be booking again next year
Good welcome by helpful staff

The Gem of the network
Just back from a 3 night stay at Englethwaite Hall. The standard of the ground-keeping is staggering considering the size of the site and its huge variety of plants, shrubs, and trees. The hanging basket display at the reception block is stunning. Lovely wardens who do a great job. Great pitch as always, and incredibly good dog walking on and around the site. My favourite site on the entire network. Can't wait to get back.

Great little site
Site is peaceful and quiet. Wardens are helpful and friendly. Road to the site is a bit bumpy but if taken careful it is fine.

Not just a stopover
We hadn't been back to this site for 20 years but it is just the same beautiful site.
There is a woodland with lakes to walk round or fish.
The wardens are lovely, everything is immaculate.
The Eden Valley is a beautiful place.
The Greyhound pub does great traditional home cooked food at proper prices.
Beautifully maintained site
We stayed here for eight nights. It is the best maintained site we have been to with CAMC and the wardens deserve much praise for their hard work. There are flowers everywhere, well maintained hedging/borders and the site is spotlessly clean. A great feature is the extensive dog walk through the woods where you will find an illuminated fairy glen, with all sorts of little mythical creatures which will amuse children and adults alike. There is also a hide from which to observe the local red squirrels. Away from the site there are plenty of historical places of interest, not least Hadrian's Wall and the Northern Lakes. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Great very well kept site and quiet
5 nights and well located for North Lakes, Hadrian's Wall, Solway, Carlisle. Solway Air Museum well worth a visit, not expensive and allow a good couple of hours.
Very well kept site, quiet, quite a few tall trees around but that was good as it was very windy the time we stayed.
Site managers, Carol and Mick very pleasant and helpful. They keep a very well cared for mini log cabin with lots of local infrmation so look it out.
Do follow arrival directions on which road to come in on.
Perfect getaway
Stayed at Engletgwaite for 3 nights and will 100% return. I stayed on pitch 6. Upon arrival the wardens where very welcoming and friendly. I didn't need to see them again which in my view means it was pretty much perfect. A lovely well kept site with lots of little cul de sacs. The onside dog walk was brilliant and the added benefit of the adjoining woodlands and lakes was just the ticket. Only a few miles from the m6 but felt a world away. Cant wait to visit again soon.
