Spoiled by road traffic noise

The site itself is up to usual C&MH Club standards as far as cleanliness is concerned, and certainly easy to get to. However it felt to us as too open. There are no hedges near the pitches to give some level of privacy. We found the road traffic noise too much, and at all times of day and night. The site is too close to a junction of two very busy roads. And it is not easy to walk from the site to nearby shops insofar as you need to walk by the side of a busy dual carriageway on a grass verge - there is no pavement. The park and ride is about 800 metres away, but to get to it you need to cross two very busy roads and negotiate a busy roundabout. So, sorry C&MH Club, but this a destination we will be avoiding in future. On the upside, Durham itself is very nice, and a visit to Beamish Museum is a must (it's about 10 miles up the A1).
