Holiday in the North East

We found this to be a very pleasant site situated about three miles from Durham city centre. The site is mostly flat with a slight slope at one end. There is a mixture of grass and hard standing pitches. The shower and toilet facilities were very clean, modern and well maintained. In the male section there were six w.c.'s, six privacy cubicles, four or five showers, four urinals and two washbasins. The showers were of adequate size and had a bench rather than the stool arrangement found on some sites. The washing up facilities had three sinks. The information office was well stocked and the wardens were courteous, helpful and friendly. The site is close to the A1(M) but we did not find the road noise intrusive in any way. There is a Park and Ride facility about fifteen minutes walk from the site but it is necessary to cross several busy roads/slip roads to get to it. One crossing in particular is quite hazardous as the traffic is coming at you from around a blind bend. It is not a pleasant walk. The bus takes less than ten minutes to the centre of Durham. There are no pubs or restaurants in the immediate vicinity of the site and it would be necessary to negotiate much the same route as the Park and Ride to get to one, although it would be a longer walk. Overall we found the site to be of a high standard and very peaceful and quiet.
