Good for families

Good site for caravans

This site is ideally suited for people who wish to break their journey north or south due to its location close to the A1(m). The main drawback of the location is the motorway noise which seems worse in winter due to the lack of foliage on the trees around the site. Having said that we found the noise fairly un-intrusive due to it being a steady drone.  If you have a motorhome without a car in tow be prepared to drive to leave the site or risk life and limb crossing the roundabout to access the nearby park and ride (which stops operating after 7pm) There is a walk to Durham city from the site which can get muddy in wet weather and is totally unsuitable to use after dark. For those with cars or who don't mind taking their 'vans out there are many fantastic attractions nearby. I would highly recommend the Bishops Palace at Bishop Aukland which is often overlooked in favour of more popular locations. I don't have children and can only guess that most youngsters would soon tire of the small playground and riding their bikes round the site but there are many good places to take them off site. The dog walk is adequate but not enough for proper dog exercise. Overall a well kept site with friendly helpful staff.
