Excellent Site

We have just returned from a week at this site and it was fantastic. The site itself is well laid out and the wardens are very friendly and helpful, the toilet block was always kept clean, there is a bit of road noise but nothing too intrusive it certainly didn't bother us. The site is in an excellent location just a 5 minute drive takes you to the lovely city of Durham with its beautiful castle and cathedral also there are plenty of shops and restaurants in the city. Newcastle is also close by and is well worth a visit to see the bridges and the city centre is packed full of shops, pubs etc. We also visited the Maritime Musuem at Hartlepool which was brilliant they have a fully restored battle ship from the 1800s so it is well worth a visit. Overall a great site in an excellent location we hope to return some time soon

Convenient site

A large site with very generously sized pitches.  Excellent facilities.  Park & Ride very close but, although within easy walking distance the volume and speed of traffic make this not recommended. The journey into Durham takes only a few minutes and services are frequent and free for the lucky ones. The only downside of the site is the constant significant traffic noise which must be balanced against the terrific convenience of access to the A1M.

Our recent visit

Whilst we enjoyed our visit to Durham despite the weather. We think that the walk to the park and ride should be discouraged as you have to cross both A1 (M) slipways which we found dangerous. There are no proper footpaths either. It would be much better to drive to the park and ride. We have a motorhome and noticed that there are several dedicated parking places for motorhomes.

Durham site

We stayed two nights at the Grange Caravan Club site. We had a serviced pitch with awning but could have just had a standard pitch as not a big site and not far to a,water or waste point.  Washroom and toilet block clean and warm. About 10 minute walk to park and ride into Durham. PR1 bus. Cost £2 each person and every 10 minutes up to 7pm. Walk there around right side of roundabout as there are paths rather than walking around on the grass. Need to be careful crossing the roads on the roundabout but it is ok. If late back can get buses near to site with a short walk, I think they go to Belmont. There is a shell garage opposite the park and ride for any essentials. You can hear the road noise from the site but you would expect this as so clise to A1M which is so accessible and we didn't find it intrusive. To catch park and ride bus back catch from stop outside Gala theatre oppositems Subway shop. There are supermarkets a couple of miles away, the reception have a few items but very little. We had a great time hear and would stay here again if we visit Durham again.

Pleasant stay

A lovely site, very handy for Durham and the use of the local park and ride. The only minus is the constant traffic noise, really helpful, friendly wardens, would visit again

Weekend away

Planned a weekend away with friends to Durham Grange. We had been informed that we couldn't pre-book two pitches together but to arrive as soon as possible after 12.00pm which is quite fair. We arrived at 1pm and checked in and paid, but our friends couldn't arrive till later in the afternoon due to work. I did try and pay for their pitch but to no avail as it is a very strict rule. I didn't appreciate at all to be told that the site is not that big and we could easily walk to our friends. Just a new Member to the Caravan Club and have used quite a few sites now and have found that staff have been very friendly and helpful, it was very disappointing to be greeted with such a negative, abrupt attitude on Reception. We wouldn't use this site again if we ever wanted to go with friends, but the site itself was fine. Shame about Reception.

Fantastic as usual

After a rotten Friday night journey up the A1 from Nottinghamshire we arrived at 6.30pm. As usual we were greeted by the warm and friendly wardens. Site spotless as usual, showers spot on with plenty of hot water. Don't be put off by the road noise. After a couple of hours you forget all about it!

Great for seeing Durham

Lovely site, lovely wardens who were very friendly and really helpful, This site is great as a base from which to explore Durham, the only downside is the traffic noise but I realise that there is nothing you can do about that. I will hopefully use this site again in the future when we revisit Durham.
