Cracking short stay

Second visit to the Durham site, this time on our way back from a Scotland tour. Wardens very welcoming and site well kept. Durham centre is a great way to while away a rest day, had a belting Brunch at Bill's restaurant just off the town centre, a posh all day breakfast at a fair price and very well looked after. There is a handy park and ride on the other side of the A1 very close to the site but was closed as it was a Bank Holiday. Got parked easily in the town centre car park not a tight squeeze for our baby Disco. We was impressed with the lower floor of the multi storey car park as its designed to cope with disabled user's cars with easy access to the shops for mobility scooters. We love dogs (have not got one now) but one member had actually built a small paddock around their pitch to house a small herd of them, they where very vocal as we pulled up to pitch the owner did not appear to calm the row, We moved well away, bring your beloved pet but please not the puppy farm.

Ideal as a stopover!!

Lovely and well kept site as you expect from The Caravan Club!! We used it as an overnight stop on our way to Scotland from Lincolnshire - ideally situated by the A1(M). Arrived early enough to take the nearby Park & Ride into Durham and "see the sights"!! Lovely city!! It's one of those sites where we can honestly say - "We'll be back!!".

4 Nights April 2019. I will be back..

I have recently stayed on this site (April 2019), and not for the first time. This site although very convenient for the A1 and those travelling further afield deserves to be considered for much more. Durham itself is a lovely City to visit, and there are several options to walk (via different routes) or ride in6to town. In fact the 'Park and Ride' site is 5 minutes walk away. lovely riverside walk from the site right to the heart of Durham. you are only 30 minutes out of Newcastle and if you prefer not to use your car there is a perfectly good bus or train service from Durham City centre. This is a busy site with much coming and going yet the staff seem to keep it impeccable at all times. All of the facilities provided are first class. This is a site I visit to walk, sight-see and generally chill out. It never disappoints me.

2 Nights 24 April 2019

This was stop 1 on our multi-stop tour from Lincolnshire to Scotland (and back) with two nights here after a three hour drive. Just off the A1 it is a very easy site to access but there is some traffic noise to be heard from the pitches because of this. This isn't too intrusive and is below the level of normal TV volume when in the caravan. The site is modern and spacious with nice large level pitches. The toilet/shower block is very clean and well maintained by the wardens who gave us a warm welcome on arrival. We have used the park and ride to Durham in the past but this time decided to walk over the A1 roundabout following the pathway suggested on the note from the information room. Not a problem getting there and a nice day exploring Durham but returning was a different story. Due to the trees screening the top of the slip road it was difficult to see traffic turning onto the A690 so it was a case of Stop, Look, Listen then sprint like Usain Bolt. Durham is well worth a visit but I'll drive to the park and ride next time! Summary: A great place to break a journey but nothing within walking distance so I'm not sure about an extended stay. Next stop: Berwick Seaview

Why aye man!!!

This site is pristine in every way, as we have come to expect from our club. We used this site during this last week as a base to visit our son and his family who has moved to Burnopfield from our home town in Wiltshire, it is perfect for us. However we will only use it during the winter/spring months because of the dreaded road noise, having never lived near road noise in all our 58 years on this earth I certainly do not wish to holiday near it, so the summer months are out because we would have to keep ourselves shut in like a drum to shut it out. The site beautifully kept, spacious and friendly. We will be back....next March.

Convenient Durham

Although this isn't one of our favourite sites on the network, due to the inevitable noise from the A1, it is nevertheless so convenient for so many different places including Durham and Newcastle, as well as many National Trust establishments. Our only comment is the dishwashing area; a shelf above the sinks would make life so much easier when other members are also using the area.

First timer

After just picking up out first ever motorhome we decided to stay at Durham grange for a night to try it out Baring it in mind that we have nothing to compare it with we had a pleasant experience. The welcome we got was very nice and informative of what we had to do i.e. How we park up against the marker post etc. The toilet block was spotlessly clean and warm. The dog walk was nice but could be abit longer ( I could have missed a longer one). We walked to the park and ride and had a couple of hours in Durham. There was abit of traffic noise but if your parked up so close to A1 your going to get that. I see the closeness as abit of a bonus if your just using site as a stop over

Great location, too expensive.

Great location. 5 minutes drive from Durham. Visited Newcastle. Beautiful coastline, try Roker beach (amazing fish and chips), Whitburn, Seaburn, Tynemouth. Beaches and sunsets wonderful. Site very close to main road so expect some noise - earplugs always help. Site busy for first few days then very quiet from 2 January. Understandable really when the prices are so expensive - we paid £206 for 7 nights (the price is lower for this year than it was for last year for some reason). This equates to just under £30 a night which is excessive when there are no facilities other than a toilet block and a playground. Not even a food van visits the site. CMC are coming perilously close to pricing themselves out of the market - when we paid even the warden said it was going to hurt!

2nd stop over

Stayed first time at this site on way to and from London, the site is easy to find from the A1. There is some road noise, but it is not intrusive. We will definitely use this site again. The wardens as ever were helpfull and friendly and the facilities were clean and well maintained. As it was the week before Christmas the site office was decorated as were some of the outfits on site. Overall a great site and will use it again to visit Durham.
