Recent stay

Arrived on the 4th July for 5 nights the site is nicely situated on the coast overlooking Dunnet bay. When we arrived the wardens office was closed with a note just to drop your membership in the letter box and find yourself a pitch. The site was not to busy, facilities where all kept clean and tidy. There's not a lot to do for family's on site if the weather is bad. The beach looks great from a distance but we noticed a lot of rubbish on the beach left by people such cans and general rubbish. Otherwise the children will love the beach on a good day.Just noticed I mark the location as a 3 should have been a 4 sorry

Beware the narrow roads

Stayed 3 nights from 14 June and overall had an enjoyable stay. Although the pitches are not hard standing drainage is excellent and only minor adjustments required with levelling ramps. The area is very peaceful with lovely open scenery, plenty of local wildlife and a nice beach walk adjacent to the site. As stay was near Summer Solstice dogs internal clocks were awry with daylight from 3am to 11pm - beach stroll at 3am very pleasant when there was no/little wind. Only real downer during stay was having motorhome driver wing mirrored obliterated by a German minibus on a narrowing road near the site - roads generally ok if you give them the respect they deserve but unfortunately have to be aware of drivers who seem oblivious to which side of the white lines they should be!!! Would visit this site again as part of a future Scottish tour particularly if going to Shetlands or Orkneys.

Third Leg

This was our third overnight stop from the south for our onward trip to Orkney and Shetland. We were hit by a big storm that looked as though we might miss our Gills Bay ferry connection next morning but all was calm the next day and we had a smooth crossing. The site was busy but pleasant as usual and the coastal run up along the east coast via Helmsdale is something we always look forward to doing.

5 Nights in June

This site is well worth the going the extra mile to get to. The site is very open but the facilities are as you would expect from a Caravan Club Site. After being attacked by midges at the previous site it was brilliant being able to open your windows and get fresh sea air. The views and the beach are excellent and we and dogs loved it. The surrounding area is great to explore, taking the single track roads and finding quiet coves, at one of which we found several seals basking and swiming that kept us amused for a while. The boat trip from John O Groats is well worth it to see all the sea birds on the rock faces. Also Dunnet Head worth going to to take pictures of the Old Man of Hoy in the distance. Don't miss the trip around Castle Mey!

The far north.

We passed this site last year and put it on our list of places to visit so we spent a couple of days at Dunnet Bay this April on a tour of the highlands. Everything was great and the facilities are as expected at a CC site. As this is a beach side site then some of the pitches are level and some are on a slope so you need levelling wedges. April was quiet so we had no problems finding a good pitch for our campervan. We didn't book as it was early season and the helpfull friendly wardens advised that the site gets busy all summer and that booking is advisable. Right on the beach with good coastal walking and a good place to use a base for exploring the far north coast of the highlands.

We Dunnet

What a fabulous site and the wardens were wonderful, thank you Janice and Chris it was great to meet you and hope we see you again next year! Right on the beach and just down the road from the Castle of Mey and John O'Groats.  It was very windy when we went but didn't spoil the holiday.  A big thank you for stamping Hollie's Tourer Explorer book to remember her trip with Grandma and Grandpa, tara a bit until we see you again, thank you for a wonderful holiday.

May tour 3

What a view, beach fantastic for our little Cavapoo Izzy. Very remote up hear but we had good weather stayed for 2 nights 13th to 15th May 2015 . Very handy to see John O Groats about 10 miles away but a delight to drive on traffic free roads. We would recomend this site to anyone who wants peace and tranquility.

Dunnet Bay

Our first time at this site, Sea views from so many pitches and walks on the beach directly from the site, Great beach for walking the dog, Sometimes we were the only people on the beach which was great!
