This site was incredibly well kept and the staff were very nice and helpful. So, much credit where it is due.
However, even though there were absolutely no caravans or motor homes in the middle of the site, which was a very large grass area - at least the size of half a football pitch, we were told (politely) that our three grandsons, all under the age of 6 were not allowed to kick a football around, while we were setting up the awning. This alone would prevent me from visiting again. This is a shame, because as I say the staff were on the face of it very pleasant and the site was immaculate.

John
Good Site
The site is quite small but it's clean and tidy, it's quiet as well, good location to Rye House Go Karting, friendly staff, toilets were clean but the showers were not powerful at all. Would stay again.
Perfect overnight stop for us
Needed somewhere to stop overnight to break up our journey. Perfectly positioned just off A1 (M). We arrived late to an extremely friendly and efficient welcome. Thank you. We are a 6 berth AutoRoller and tow a small car and were able to pitch up without unhitching for a hassle free stopover. Our pitch backed on to a grass/wooded area and was lovely and peaceful. Would definitely visit again.
Commons Wood Review
Excellent site for visiting London or as a stopover if travelling from the north enroute to the channel crossings.
On the edge of habitation so its never going to be quiet and peaceful but as an alternative to staying in a London area hotel this site has a lot going for it.
Just a couple of miles from the A1. Trains from Welwyn to Kings Cross are approx every 30 minutes with the journey taking about 30 minutes also. Buses to the train station just a few hundred yards walk.
The site has a recently decorated wash-room, all weather pitches and a large central grass area, for use in the dryer months.
We've stayed there a few times now when wanting to visit London; its obviously used by commuters and traders so there can be some traffic noise as these people depart for their daily grind each morning however once they've departed its relatively quiet again.
Will never win an award for the prettiest site, but the wardens do a good job of keeping it clean and tidy.
Its overriding advantage is its position just off the A1 and with its excellent connections to the East Coast mainline.
Report
Needed just 1 night in our m/home after spending a few days without hook-up & loo disposal facilities in nearby Chiltern Hills. Very conveniently placed & Wardens were extremely friendly, efficient & helpful. Some distant traffic noise from the A414, but not overly intrusive.
Ideal as a base.
An excellent site for visiting near London and London attractions ( If you take the train into London ) Would we use the site again, yes possibly.
Downside, early morning comings and goings, large Hobby vans with sign written white vans using them, even a flat back Lorry parked next to a large Hobby van, these are certainly workmen using a Caravan club owned site, is this not against the rules ?
Excellent London Base
We stayed for 3 nights to celebrate a BIG birthday. On 2 evenings we travelled into London and found the train service very good...only 30 minutes into Kings Cross, and not expensive either!
Site was in excellent condition considering this was February and facilities as always on Club sites A1+. Just a note to parents...children cycling (and running across) on the site roads in the wrong direction were a worry to us as not everyone obeys the 5 mile rule. Query? I thought sign written commercial vehicles were not allowed on pitches?
Perfect location, especially for London
Stayed here 3 nights over 2 separate weekends to cover trips into London. Hartford & Welwyn Garden City rail stations are less than 10 min drive.
Only ever used Hartford station, which has just been refurbished, whilst for the better, the drop off/collection point is only small and you often get Taxi's hogging the bays. There is a new car park next to the station now. The train is only £7+ return into London and there are 4 trains an hour! The CC site itself, apart from being in an ideal location, is typical CC high standards. Given its busy location, it's actually fairly quiet. Naturally, by name, by nature, has a large bit of woodland and golf course at the back of it with direct access to numerous paths, ideal for dog walks or just a leg stretch. I had no problems with power and the WiFi was good too and on both visits I was at the furthest point from the entrance! Will almost always use this as a base in future.
Very Helpful and Friendly Wardens
I was only passing through for one night and it was dark so can't review properly but what I can say is how helpful the wardens were. Travelling back from Spain the ferry was late getting into Portsmouth so I had to cancel Clumber Park at short notice but managed to get into Commons Meadow for the night but rang ahead as the ferry didn't get get in till 5 and the journey meant negotiating the M25 and I expected to be pushing it for 8pm and there is no late arrivals area here.
I needn't have worried as the wardens were so helpful. I arrived at 7.40p.m. And was met by the wardens who had sorted me a hard standing for the night so I didn't have to unhitched.
If I'm next in the area I would certainly book again and it looks like an ideal site if visiting London.
Thanks wardens for looking after us after a long drive from Benidorm.

Whistle stop visit
Only stayed one night en route to meet friends in Buckinghamshire. Liked what we saw and would go back to explore the area in the future.
