The Nightmare Road to Cirencester Camp Site.

Everything about this site is lovely except the stupid design of the entrance road. The old pot holed road was much better. This road is narrow, snake like with huge boulders down the side and passing points that are in such stupid positions that by the time you see something coming towards you it is too late to get into the passing point completely unless your rig can move sideways. Whoever dreamt this up obviously has no qualifications in road planning. I except that as long as you don't meet anyone than the road is just about ok, but upon leaving last friday we met a very large caravan rig coming in. He should not have been there as entrance is after 13:00 and it was only 11:20 but he was there all the same. I had a larger camper van behind my caravan and a motor home behind him. My wife had to get out to wave the oncoming rig down to get into the passing point to the side of us (which he probably couldn't see). He couldn't quite fully get in there so we had to move very slowly passed him, I reckon there was less than 2" between the side of my caravan and the back edge of him whilst all the time keeping an eye on the stupid boulders on the side of the road. If another caravan had followed the oncoming one down then I think we would still be there now. We love Cirencester Park, have been numerous times but we won't be going again until something is done with this road. As someone else said, "It's an accident waiting to happen and it's not going to be my rig that gets damaged.

I have to completely agree.  This site is quite local to us and we use it often.  We took a trip out in the car to have a look at the new access road after reading comments online and agree the boulders are absolutely ridiculous. What purpose are they supposed to serve?  They are huge. To make matters even worse, there are already weeds growing over the boulders, so in time you are not even going to see the caravan/motorhome crunching boulders!  I agree, the passing places are also inadequate, even after what looks like amendments to them to widen them. I am sorry to say another Caravan and Motorhome Club member that will not visit this site again until something is done to the road. It really is an accident waiting to happen and it is so unnecessary. Such a shame as it really is a beautiful site.

Can only agree. This is very dangerous entrance. Outfits leaving BEFORE 12.00 noon and outfits arriving AFTER 1.00 pm would help the situation, but as we all know there are members who believe rules and guidance only apply to other people!!

Even if all members adhere to the arrival and departure times you will still have to confront the cricket club and tennis club members coming the other way in their compulsory large 4x4 s.

I only have a small campervan and trailer so managed the obstacle course ok BUT it did spoil my holiday thinking about how I might have to reverse a small trailer (almost impossible).

The Cirencester college need to have a rethink on this one because until its sorted the Caravan club are going to get lots of grief and anger from members, which is a shame for such a wonderful site run by great hard working members
