Poor access road

We have stayed at Cirencester Park previously in our caravan. It is an excellent and popular site with good quality facilities and the serviced pitches are nice and spacious, and a nice stroll through the Park into lovely Cirencester. We did not find the previous access road too much of a problem despite the poor road condition, as long as you took it nice and slowly. However, the new access road would most certainly stop us from visiting again. It is far too narrow, and even the passing bays are too narrow and not long enough to accommodate our 12 metre long car/caravan outfit, and the boulders along the road edge are a real hazard. It is clear the new road has been designed and built on the cheap. The road should be wider, and the passing bays wider and longer, and instead of boulders the road should be kerbed on both sides. It will be impossible for two large outfits to pass each other. How the Local Planning Authority has approved such a poor standard access road to a large caravan park is incomprehensible. I think the Club has a problem on their hands!!! I sincerely hope the road and passing bays can be widened so the Members can visit this wonderful site without worrying about the access road.

A spacious, beautifully-run, friendly site - great escape after lockdown!

Took motorhome here for 2 nights for trial run, haven’t been anywhere for months! All the Covid-19 precautions were thorough but not too bossy. Once parked up, it was all reassuringly normal... thanks for a wonderful stay, Cirencester Park! My first visit, so here are the basics: Reception staff really helpful and cheerful - choose your own pitch then go back to let them know where you are and collect fob/wristband Pitch size excellent - on grass on western side by dog field Loads of trees and hedges around, immaculate grass and roads Dog field looked great, with many ‘enthusiastic’ singing dogs - will bring my 2 next time Play field next to dog field is really wonderful - loads of interesting space for ball games, picnics etc Didn’t use shower blocks, but could see staff turning up often to keep things going - the wristband system to control numbers of people seemed a good idea You can use Cirencester Park itself 8-5, access near campsite entrance - shame there’s no gate within the site, but down to security I guess About 20 minutes to walk into town Location gets 4 not 5 only because of very slight, distant road noise (A419 to Stroud) and having no direct access to the Park Playground closed due to C19, but plenty of space and play field is open Signage useful, but restricted to essentials and not too ‘Nagy’ All in all, it was a fabulous short break, away from news and viruses! The staff are all lovely, the grounds are beautifully kept, the space is generous. Will go back. Well done Cirencester.

Due to the new access road, our favourite site is no longer available to us!

We have just returned from our favourite site, which we use up to three times a year and we have come away feeling absolutely distraught, the reason being that the new access road, the way it has been designed, leaves you fraught and concerned that you may damage your caravan arriving or departing from the site. The new access road is an absolute nightmare and a danger to caravan and motorhomes transiting it. You will see on the 'site information,' the story of what has gone on and it looks like the Club is trying to rectify the problem but until the road is made more user friendly, we have decided not to return and have cancelled our two further bookings to the site. The problem with the road is that it is now single track width, with large boulders either side, so any slight swing of the back end of the caravan and you miss them by inches. There are two (maybe three) overtaking places which are only just big enough for a single car, also there is a blind corner prior to entering the site. If you wish to design a road to deter large vehicles and caravans, this would be it! We pity the poor club members that will either come to grief from damaging their caravan or even worse, meeting another large vehicle/outfit coming the other way. The majority of the boulders are just too big to be manhandled and the resulting gridlock in both directions would make the situation newsworthy! At the moment the College is closed so the road prior to the access road to the site has no parked cars, however, departing with our caravan today, it was still tight trying to manoeuvre past the queue of cars waiting and other parked cars, as we exited. When the College opens and more people park in this area, the entry and exit to the access lane will be chaotic. The good news is that once we had arrived, the site is still fantastic. We were greatly impressed on our arrival, where five caravans were waiting to enter, the procedures the staff used was excellent. They required just our membership cards and then waived us all through and required us to return once we had pitched up, to make our payments. Their Covid safe procedures for the toilet blocks are also simple and easy to follow. We look forward to the road being improved so we can enjoy this lovely site again.

Another great stay

Our second visit, and we thoroughly enjoyed again, this is a great location particularly for motorhomers as the town centre is so close by. Just to address the review from the last person about how bad the entrance road is, please do not be put off, all you need to do is drive slowly, we've definitely experienced worse. Considering we've had so much rain recently that probably hasn't helped, the drive is pretty wide so plenty of room for other people to pass. WE are very keen cyclists and again see no problem with a few pot holes you just have to look where you are going. There are many positives about this site which is typical of a MCC site, clean, well maintained, functional, and friendly helpful staff. You know what to expect, all sites in the club are pretty similar. What we love about this site is the beautiful Bathurst Estate parkland which you are free to walk through between 8am and 5pm, 15/20 mins and you're in the town centre and what a pleasant town it is. Plenty of nice places to eat and drink very dog friendly. Then if you need to walk back from town after 5pm the footpath is really wide, also a cycle path and well lit enough to get you back to site easily.

BEWARE OF RISK OF DAMAGE TO YOUR OUTFIT

The access road is riddled with deep craters and potholes. During our visit on the last weekend of the 2019 season a speed bump had disintegrated and a piece was left upturned on the road with stud fixing bolts pointing upwards. Our motorhome tyres could have easily been punctured, not to mention the risk of damage to suspension components. There is a particular risk to cyclists and motorcyclists especially during hours of darkness. My complaints to the club hierarchy have just been shamefully batted away because the access road comes under the jurisdiction of the Cirencester College Campus. There is no way that this site should be reopened until that appalling road is fully repaired. Please be aware of the serious risks that are posed if you are planning to visit this site.

Excellent

Great site. Great location. Walking distance to town of Cirencester through a lovely park. Wardens and assistant wardens very friendly. Nothing too much trouble.

Lovely site but the wardens are unhelpful.

We arrived on the site to meet up with friends for the weekend. Our friends were 30 minutes behind us but we were told that we were not allowed to save them a pitch next to us. This is our second visit to the site which is lovely and in a great location, but the wardens are unhelpful and should be working for the fun police.

Comment from the Club:

Many thanks for your comments. Please note that any operational concerns can be raised with us as either feedback or a complaint for formal review by contacting the Club directly. We prefer reviews to be about the site rather than any complaints of service as complaints are best dealt with by the relevant team at the Club. As such please can you email UKSitesBookingService@camc.com and a member of the team will be able to investigate.  Many thanks.

Pleasant but pitches need dealing with

We regularly visit here out of the main holiday season as it is ideally placed close to home for a weekend away and Cirencester Park is handy for walking. However, as only hard standings are available at this time of year rather than grass pitches the Club really needs to widen the msjority of the pitches to enable a car, caravan & awning to fit the gravelled area side by side. At present it is expected that you park your car in front of the caravan but the pitches are not deep enough to get the car off the site road. Also when manoeuvring it is impossible not to damage the grass verge resulting in a nasty mess whenever it is wet, which it frequently is at this time of year. This must result in an additional expense to the Club which could be easily avoided. The layout of the site means there are several aspects to the one way system which given the number of motorhomes which went the wrong eay needs sorting out, probably with better signage. Otherwise the site facilities were of the usual club standard and several new incentives for dog owners have been introduced such as the Pit Stops and dog washes. Pity that the dog wash nearest the dog walk was not open and the hose piping at the one nearest the exit was so bad that the water dribbled out rather than flowed. Also it would help if it had a decent surface and some drainage rather than just muddy ground. Could do better! These things won’t stop us visiting but it is time some money was spent on this site to bring it up to the required standard.

Not the welcome we expected from a club site.

We arrived at this site at about ten o'clock, we had not booked but went there as members with an electrical fault on our motorhome which meant we had no 12 volt supply so could not even run the fridge on gas. We were told the site was full at that time but there would be a space available later. We enquired if we could park anywhere at all until a pitch was available but were told no, even though the late arrival spaces were all available. We have read so many good stories about how helpful club staff are but that was not our experience here. We don't think it would have been to much trouble to allow us to plug in somewhere for a couple of hours. Staff did direct us to a private site a few miles away.

A hidden little gem - Well worth a visit

Site is very easy to access from dual carriageways. Final 500m are a shared driveway that might need a little attention , but is not, I guess, part of the club site. The site is massive, and when we visited 21st October they had gone to all weather pitches, which we found fine. The staff were helpful and receptive to needs and recommended appropriate pitches, which were absolutely spot on. Facilities were clean and well tended, and usefully cleaned in the afternoon. The walk through the Bathurst Estate is beautiful, as too is the city. Cycle routes and walks are plentiful, but tucked away so look carefully. Cotswold Water Park is also very nice. We will take our dog next time. The site and city was recommend to us, and we totally agree without reservation that it is a well hidden site, with a 15-20 minute walk into the centre. John The Baptist church and city architecture and history is superb. Also Michelin restaurant "Made by Bob" is excellent - Don't miss it.
