How to shoot yourself in the foot.

First off , I am a local to this site know all about the surrounding area and use it to shakedown our Motorhome. The site is usually full like most in the Northwest on Friday and Saturday nights. The Rake pub next door requires you to book at busy times. Good but expensive to some. 1. We now have to hand our membership cards at reception. 2. We now have 2 white markers to align the van/Caravan to. 3. No bins on site just a communal bin near the exit. A good distance from anywhere to save plastic bags for gods sake. 4. Funds for the whole stay taken at 00.01 on the day of arrival. 5. The site can get noisy due to it’s location near a motorway. Why on earth would I to stay with you?

Not as good as it used to be

Stayed for three nights recently. Site busy due to a rally. Usual CAMC site but really needs some TLC. Pitches overgrown, hardstandings full of weeds, looked a mess. No rubbish bins at the service points now, you have to take all your rubbish to an area near the exit which is fenced off. The wardens don’t deal with rubbish any more, they don’t cut the grass or weed the hardstandings. Hardstandings with awning cost £34.50 a night which is too much. The CAMC have seriously lost their way and will end up pricing themselves out of the market. On top of this I seriously don’t like the new website. One more year to get your act together then we will decide whether to stay in the club or leave.

Great weekend

What a fabulous site which is evident the moment you arrive. A warm welcome from the hard working staff along with a few suggestions of the local eateries. The site is immaculately clean and well maintained, Thank you to the hard working wardens that made our stay perfect.

Good location

Have been here numerous times and have always enjoyed it The location is great for lots of places and with the shopping park across the road there's lots to see and do. The only thing that let it down this time was the "regimental" warden! Both the the ladies were lovely but one of the male wardens (South african) was really abrupt. My partner was getting water at the service point and i was in my car. He came running over flapping his arms at me to tell me I couldn't go on to the pitch that was literally 5ft away from me because it had no entry on the road so rudely told me to reverse and drive all the way back around the site to get on the pitch that was 5ft away and then yelled at me to go 5mph even though I was doing 4mph! I understand rules are rules but thought that was ridiculous. There was nobody about and my car was virtually touching the pitch. The lady behind me had said that he had even exactly the same with her. There's a way to treat ppl and whilst it could be said that he is just doing his job, his mannerisms were uncalled for and disappointing.

Not as good as it used to be

Clean and tidy site. Great location with Chester and Liverpool less than an hour away by train or bus. Excellent transport connections with buses and trains running everywhere several times an hour. Plenty of places to eat and drink and Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet across the road. Two issues to moan about : No rubbish bins on site except at the entrance. To far for me to walk with disability. Had to take rubbish on the occasions when we left the site in the car. Toilet block closed for cleaning 10.15 to 12.00 with a spare single toilet available around the rear of the building - no problem then. However, on the day we left, with the caravan in tow, we were passing the single toilet at 11.45 and stopped to use it as we had a 3½ hour journey in front of us. This should have been open between 10.15 and 12.00, to coincide with the main toilets being closed for cleaning but we were informed by a member of staff that we could not use them as they had just been cleaned and the wet floor was a hazard. Assuming they had finished cleaning the main toilets early we went around to use these instead only to be told the same thing by a different member of staff. The staff member seemed uninterested in our situation and said we'd have to wait until the floors were dry. This I think in unnecessary and unacceptable and there should always be a toilet available for emergencies. This event spoilt an otherwise happy stay.

Chester Fairoaks.

We have just returned from a 19 day trip, away finishing with 5 nights at Fairoaks. I have just read a few reviews and I am disappointed to see some people saying the staff weren’t great. For my own experience the staff were absolutely FIRST CLASS, the site is clean and extremely well kept. So what if kids are running about, unfortunately that’s their job, they are on holiday as well. this is not a 5 star hotel where the staff are there to wait on you hand & foot. So please go to Fairoaks, let kids be kids, let the wardens do their jobs and most of all everyone, just enjoy yourselves.

Lazy wardens

Campsite is poorly maintained except for the reception area. Grass not cut, trees and bushes require attention and now all the rubbish bins have been removed from around the site and you have to walk back to the entrance to deposit rubbish in waste compound. So not sure what the wardens actually do …… the rubbish bins issue is a real issue for those visitors with mobility problems. Also the kids are running wild, biking and run it through pitches and wardens turn a blind eye. The only good thing about this site is the outlet next door.

Poor value for money

I have thought that CAMC sites are getting rather expensive (especially compared to equivalent sites in the Camping and Caravanning network). At Chester Fairoaks, for outfit plus 2 adults in August, the charge is £42.60 per night!! I have never paid over £35 before. I have to say I think this is a rip-off. Apart from the handy location the site is pretty average - facilities obviously recently refurbished but not all that clean, grass needed cutting, lots of traffic noise. We won’t be returning here. We shall also look for better value sites in the future and that probably means not on the CAMC network. The club needs to look at its pricing structure before it kills the golden goose.

Disappointed

First impression of the site looks nice, flowers around the reception in full bloom. After that it went down hill. Firstly one male warden thought himself a comedian, when I asked him a question he didn't reply but made a stupid silly answer (very annoying when you have been on a long journey) The grass needed cutting weeds on the pitches. We stayed for 3 days and never saw the wardens other than riding around on a bike. , You now have to take you rubbish yourself to the main bins at the top of the site, didn't realise I was a refuge worker on my holiday break. The toilets showers are all closed for cleaning at the same time, then told the service toilet is open but you will find yourself in a long queues This site is an expensive site, but you certainly aren't getting value for money. In one word dreadful
