Friendly, welcoming site - the perfect place to relax and unwind
Stayed for five nights over the Spring Bank Holiday weekend. The first word of advice is to plan your route, don't rely particularly on Google Maps unless your settings can take into account that you are towing. Stick to the main A roads and you'll be fine.
Beautiful setting within the town of Cheddar, close enough to walk to the local shops, Tesco Express and Sainsbury's. Take care if walking with small children, push chairs or dogs as the road is narrow and without a foot path in some areas.
Upon arrival we received a friendly welcome and were quickly and efficiently checked in. Everything was explained thoroughly and concisely. We had a choice of pitches and chose No 56, set in the corner, with a short walk to the shower block and waste area. It supplied a spacious plot for our two berth caravan and awning.
What strikes you is the well maintained area, the grass and hedges are perfectly manicured. The cleanliness of the service areas including shower block and waste disposal area deserve special mention and praise. Not once during our stay did we see anything less than spotless conditions. The wardens work as a well oiled machine, they clearly have a well disciplined work schedule which is evident and results in a great experience for the camper.
The Gorge/Wookey Hole are obvious tourist hot spots but we found the ride to Axbridge and the walk around Cheddar Reservoir much more appealing. Wells is beautiful, we visited twice. Getting anywhere on the roads around the area is testing, the 8 mile drive to Wells will take well over 20 minutes and although it's only 24 miles to Bath it will take you over an hour on a roller coaster journey.
The site itself deserves top marks! Reviewing our stay we have to say that there was not one criticism. However, we found the 'area' with a few exceptions a little under-whelming. A site we would definitely use again if we found ourselves in the area but wouldn't rush back to the region.
