Fantastic site and location

Visited site after the August Bank Holiday for a four night stay and was immediately struck by the friendly feeling to the site. Our dog loved the close proximity to the small river and dog walk adjacent to the site. Our son loved the short walk to Tesco Express (Sainsburys also a short walk). So much to explore on foot around Cheddar Gorge. Several very good dog friendly pubs in Cheddar. Best Cornish pasty ever from Cobbs - absolute bargain at just £2.25. Plenty of cycle paths to explore surrounding area. Facilities spotless and only closed for a reasonable time during the morning. Compact site (in a good way) but pitches often separated by hedges which gave a nice continental feel. So much to see in the locality didn't get to explore wider region (Wells, Glastonbury to start). Will do this on our next visit!!

Worst Welcome

Being relatively new to motorhoming we've been travelling the UK CAMC and affiliated sites for the last 24 months enjoying all the hidden gems that England, Scotland and Wales have to offer. Over that time we've visited over 30 locations and are now converts to motorhoming planning an ever growing list of places to visit. Having spent four lovely days hiking, biking and exploring Cheddar before moving on to Devon we can only recommend the Cheddar location. However, we do have to feedback the negatives along with the positives and unfortunately the welcome we recieved upon arrival at Cheddar was not only the worst we have recieved on any trip it was completely inappropriate and has to be feedback and reported. After travelling for four hours from the Midlands we arrived at Cheddar Club at 12:50 which was ten minutes before check in time. We had read that check in was from 13:00 however there was already two motorhomes in front of us and others pulling in directly behind us keen to start their holiday and explore the wonderful Cheddar. After four hours driving we got out to stretch our legs and chat with the other arrivals while waiting for check in. Reading the sign outside reception it does state check in is not before 13:00 and if you arrive early you should leave and come back. However, with it being ten minutes before 13:00 and five or six arrivals queuing there would be no way everyone could turn around and leave. While discussing this fact with a chuckle the reception gate was forcefully opened and we were met with our host (Ness) who stated "do you think that's funny"? What a welcome eh. After explaining (like naughty children) we were simply discussing the impractability of turning around six motorhomes the gate was shut again. Five minutes later our other host Dave came out to add to our welcome by saying " we'll I suppose I'll have to start letting you all in". A completely unnecessary comment which was met with disagreement with the second arrival. Once our turn had come to check in we mentioned our disappointment at the inappropriate welcome. To this we were asked if we wanted to stay or not?. Again a great welcome eh. While the welcome did not spoil our stay it did leave an awkward environment for the duration. The welcome aside we can truly recommend Cheddar. Walking around the reservoir and beautiful towns of Cheddar and Axbridge are a must. If your feeling more energetic hiking or mountain biking up the stunning gorge is well worth the views. We'll be visiting Cheddar again but it will be another site which is unfortunate to say.

Bus problem

Just to point out as we have a motorhome we always try to book sites with easy access to transport. We did catch the 126 bus from Cheddar to Wells during our stay this week. However, there was a notice on the bus stop informing that the bus would no longer run from October. Must be devastating for local people and not so attractive for people with motorhomes who would prefer to get around using transport.

Good site for 2/3 day stay

Relief wardens on duty when we arrived were very pleasant and helpful (although not fully versed in the local area understandably). Short walk to village but wouldnt be keen to walk along the fenced off path on my own or in the dark. Good clean showerblock.

Nice site for short break

This is a nice, clean and well maintained site. Fairly small site with the usual large and well spaced out pitches. Facilities are kept nice and clean. Staff were pleasant. Short walk to cheddar with some nice pubs and restaurants and some nice local walks, we stayed 5 nights which was ideal. Bit surprised that 5 nights cost £189 but it seems all club sites are raising the prices. The shower cubicles are small, and the absence of a shower curtain means clothes etc got wet which was annoying. Friends had their daughter stay one night at an additional cost of £11.50 which we thought was steep. For us personally we have discovered CL’s and cheaper private sites recently so I think our visits to club sites will diminish as it’s just too costly.

Cheddar Kennels

A lovely site, ideal for a short break. The site is well kept and the wardens work hard to maintain spotless facilities. Unfortunately our stay was spoilt by two issues both related to inconsiderate campers. The incessant yapping and barking of dogs with owners who failed to even encourage the animals to quieten down. We are all campers BUT we're not all dog lovers. Secondly, why do I have to listen to another camper's TV? Their caravan had every window open yet failed to turn the volume down. Again, other campers oblivious to the needs of other people!! Fundamentally our time on site was spoiled by these two issues. Unfortunately dogs yapping all the time is becoming an increasing nuisance on many sites.

Last stay

Very good clean site with excellent pitches. Quiet time from 10pm 7am , brilliant. Very near to town centre where there are quite a few different restaurants, chippy, baguette shop and good few pubs within walking distance. Friendly staff on arrival and no problems getting a pitch straight away so well organised by them. Good walks and cycle rides. Would definitely be visiting again

Great location

Very good location and easy walk into Cheddar village and gorge. Drivers and navigators should be aware that the entrance is shared by three other businesses and is decidedly scruffy looking. It does not help that the entrance is also shown as a No Through Road! After passing Cheddar Church, go over narrow bridge followed by sharp right bend. Entrance is about 50 metres after bend on right and is quite easy to miss. But once there it is a very pleasant site. A trip into Wells on the bus from the Monument is worthwhile specially Wednesday or Saturday for the excellent open air market.

Excellent site

This site is in a perfect location for visiting Cheddar Village although £21 each for a day pass for the caves etc is in my opinion a bit steep !! Cheddar Brewery is worth a visit although they only open for a couple of hours weekdays - the beer/cider/ lager is good and relatively cheap. The site itself is quite small and well managed / kept. I can’t understand people moaning about the Toilet/Shower Block - it is perfectly adequate and was spotlessly clean during our 4 night stay.

Great Location

Stayed for 2 weekend nights in June, site well located with easy walking access into Cheddar, plus lots of walks in the area. The site is excellent and the site team are brilliant, with the recently refurbished toilet block a welcome improvement over other club sites. The only minor downside is late night noise from the adjacent Football Club with some unwelcome behaviour following the disco close out by a minority of idiots. Not much the club can do, but something to bear in mind, maybe avoid the first lane of pitches to be sure, if possible?
