Great Location

I spent 5 nights at the site in Chatsworth in August this year and had a thoroughly nice time. The best thing about it for me was the direct access to Chatsworth Park, where it is lovely to walk the dogs and have a stroll or a picnic (if you don't mind sheep). Chatsworth house itself is a short distance through the park and well worth a visit. Unfortunately, the house was draped in plastic during my visit for quite extensive work to the roof (I think), but usually it makes for some lovely photographs if that is what you like. Other than that, the campsite is very well located. We were able to drive easily all over the Peak District from there and Bakewell is very close (although we chose to avoid it as much as possible due to the heavy traffic around the town all the time!). The wardens were friendly and helpful and the showers and loos were immaculate at all times; it is a very nice site. However - one little whinge - when I booked the site, I had to book a super pitch - nothing else was available, even some months in advance. I spent four nights on that pitch before moving to a 'normal' pitch for a fifth night. Don't bother with the super pitch if something else is available! The pitch I had (number 7) was dark, small and had no grass at all. I did not realise just how miserable it was until I moved to grassy pitch 90! The normal pitches are cheaper and far better value for money; there is more space and -generally - a much nicer feel. Nonetheless, I will return next year, because there is so much more to see and do in the region generally.
