A Derbyshire gem

Visited last week with friends for the Christmas Fair and Chatsworth House 'festified' for Christmas. The tour of the house was wonderful as it was on the theme of Charles Dickens and it was well organised and very tastefully done. The Fair outside in the grounds was also excellent with no 'tat' and lots to choose from. The Chatsworth grounds can be accessed through a gate from the campsite so lots of walking onto the public footpaths for as far or near as you wish. We walked through Edensor and Rowsley through open countryside and interesting hamlets. We ate out at Baslow where there are pubs/eating places for all pockets and tastes. Lots to see in the area from retail parks to restored windmills and trips to towns such as Bakewell, Chesterfield, Buxton and Castleton. Facilities are good on the site although if I'm honest I prefer a less regimented pitch layout and it's always busy and therefore full. Staff were efficient and obviously kept busy so somewhat less than welcoming and quick to start Toilet block cleaning before the stated time. Perhaps it's been a long season and they are on automatic pilot. However we will be back.
