easter break 2016

We had a mid week break first week of my daughters Easter school holiday. Absolutley love this site mainly due to its location. Stunning walks around Chatsworth estate and Baslow village. Bakewell a close drive away and buying Bakewell pudding is a must. Will definately use this site again

A really lovely spot..!

Driving in you already get the idea that it's going to be peaceful and in beautiful scenery. The idea will not be disappointed. It can be a little awkward driving through but we went in without a hitch and the site available was just about perfect. A genuinely full service site with good spacing and excellent access to Chatsworth House. The staff could not have been more helpful including some help with our electrical hookup. Baslow is lovely too. We will definitely return....give it a try..!

Excellent Site

First time for us at Chatsworth although our son has been here a few times and recommended the site to us. It's a great location, especially being able to access the park and Chatsworth House from the site. Very confiding wildlife, especially the mallards and pheasants and lots of herons down at the river. As usual a friendly welcome from the staff and excellent facilities. Baslow is worth the walk and has a good choice of eateries. All in all a pleasant couple of days.

Chatsworth

We are just back from another fantastic 8 night break at Chatsworth. As previous reviews have stated the site is very well maintained, toilets spotless and the wardens very friendly and helpful. The site has a fantastic location and we enjoyed visits to Baslow, Bakewell, Buxton, and The Monsal Trail.  We and the dog enjoyed walking through Chatsworth Park and visited the picture postcard village of Edensor, the tea-room is dog friendly.  Please remember that dogs should be kept on leads, saw several while appearing to be well-behaved that were off the lead !! Bit naive especially with the ewes in lamb. All in all a fabulous break and we are hoping to be lucky enough to return next Easter

A good location for walkers

Stayed at this site early April 2016. The site was busy with children as we'd accidently booked in the school holidays. This was not a problem as there is enough room for the kids to ride their bikes in safety. The entrance to the site is tight, especially at busy times. A long queue is formed on the approach lane so there can be quite a wait to get checked in. The pitches are tightly packed but adequate. The shower blocks are immaculately cleaned each day and there is plenty of hot water. What more do you need? The area is exceptionally good for members who are keen on walking. The Wheatsheaf in the village serves a great meal with a good discount for CC Members. Thoroughly recommended. There is a good dog walk on site although the lane out of the site is just as good.

Fuddys on Holiday

As the only booking available was during school holidays we took a chance. After 5 days we were pleased we did. All the children around us were friendly, polite and just having fun. A credit to their parents. Site was well run, good facilities and plenty space. Even the weather was better than expected. Having so much within walking distance its easy to have a good holiday. Only down side was big puddles through gate to dog walk and muddy path in dog walk, both could have improved with filling and chippings. Well worth another visit if can get booked in.

First time at Chatsworth

Having spent 4 nights at York Rowntree and 2 nights at Clumber Park we spend the last 2 nights of the school holiday at Chatsworth. All good sites and different in their own way.

Chatsworth has the most difficult access that I have encountered for a club site, but it is well documented and expected, as long as you don't turn up before 1pm and leave before 12 noon, it should work. We arrived at 2 minutes past 1 and were about 7th or 8th in the queue to get in, all managed very well and quickly by the wardens. The couple of cars wanting to get in and out at the same time could do so easily by using the passing bays and grass.

Lots of tight pitches, some up dead ends. Easy, if you have a mover, but could be tricky if you have to reverse right in. We got lucky, and secured a big pitch, on the main run around site, but the site was full by 8pm, so some would have had to do some tidy manouvering.

Great site for Chatsworth Park and the Bakewell, Matlock area. Up to all the usual club site standards. WIFI and mobile coverage good. TV signal not so good.

Will definitely go back - if we can get in, as most weekends and school holidays are full now until the end of the year.Sad

Excellent site

Have just returned from a lovely weekend on this site.  Pitches good, we pitched near wall - on the other side was the river and a fantastic view of sheep in the fields on the other bank.  Loved the easy access to the Chatsworth estate, lovely walking. Having read a few negative reviews recently following so many great ones we were hoping not to be disappointed.  We weren't. The site is lovely, wardens all friendly and helpful. Facilities excellent, clean and the expected good high standards.  If I have a negative it's in the ladies facilities, the 2 hand washing sinks, 2 hand driers and 2 hair driers are all squeezed into a small 3 sided area, if there are more than 2 people wanting to use one of them it's impossible. But don't let that put you off, showers, toilets and wash cubicles are excellent, species and well planned.  Shame the site is always so booked up in advance that you can't get in unless planned well in advance. Of course I have to mention dogs, we always seem to be surrounded by them, so annoying when they bark and owners don't bother to control them, this weekend it was 2 beagles opposite us that barked at everything that moved.  This is not specific to this site, seems all club sites have the same situation.

What the caravan club is all about

Excellent example of how a site should be run, spotless clean, nothing is to much trouble for the wardens who look after you has one of there own. As for the pitch sizes perfectly adequate, you are in a beautiful walled garden so the pitches tend to look smaller. Some people don't realize the wardens have to work to strict health and safety rules keeping the right distance between, mainly for fire . Those of us who are experienced caravaners realise this and just listen to the wardens. This is our fourth time on this site and can,t wait to go back, 5 star site one of the best we have visited.

Do not stay on pitches 102 or 36 - Liable to flooding as we found out. Staff attitude shocking.

We stayed at this site for a week over Easter.  Like others we had to que to check into the site along the entry road.  Pitches are close together and in reasonable condition.  The attitude of the site staff is poor on our 2nd night it rained and we woke up to our awning along with 3 other caravans around us to be under about 10 – 15 cms of water, we were well and truly flooded.  The warden turned up on his tractor, thinking he had come to help us as we had four young children, he drove straight into the flood, sending a nice wave of more water on to our pitch (thank you very much!).  He stopped, shock his head and said “these pitches never usually floods this much” and drove off.  At no time did any of the staff help us, in fact when I went to the site office they took the attitude, it’s not my problem.  It would have been good to be warned these pitches are liable to flooding as we would not have left all the kids toys, shoes ect ect on the awning floor.  People came over to us, who stay on the site regularly and said to us these pitches flood often.  If this is the case a warning when checking in would be good or why not make them a non-awning pitch.  If you are wondering we had pitches. 102 and 36.  The attitude of the staff on site really shocked us.  The facilities were clean ish, but could have been better and the kids play area was dated.  In summary the location of the site is great, but let down by the staff, condition and closeness of pitches and facilities could be cleaner.
