Some good- some not so good

Just returned home from 4 nights at Castleton. There is no doubt that this is a lovely location, especially if you enjoy wildlife, the countryside and walking. The proximity of the site to Castleton with all amenities and the local dog friendly pub (The Cheshire Cheese - 10 min walk) is brilliant. However there were some good and not so good Caravan Club experiences here. We decided to extend our stay by one night but when checking the site online it was fully booked. We telephoned the site and the warden very kindly shuffled things around and fitted us in. Thankyou so much for doing this for us as it gave us another wonderful day walking near Ladybower. On arrival our caravan was filthy from road grime, so I filled a bucket of water to wash the windows down and was firmly told by a warden that only waterless cleaners were allowed on this site!…Come on Caravan Club what is happening here when a member can’t fill a bucket of water to wash the van windows down. Am I allowed to wash down my water barrel or waste water container when I leave! or fill a bucket of water to wash my walking boots or my dogs paws! Day two ...another warden asked if I knew where the ‘ramp’ sign was that had gone missing from the grass verge adjacent to my pitch, with the implication that I had knocked it over with my car or caravan, and moved it. I had no idea what had happened to the ‘ramps’ sign, but apologised if it was me who had accidently displaced it. …when the sign was replaced it had white streaks down it! My car is blue, and my caravan is grey - not very good detective work there. (sorry to be sarcastic but I feel annoyed at the implied allegation) Finally Caravan Club - for all the publicised improvements to the Wi Fi provision on sites it is abysmal at Castleton when the site is busy. You have to try three or four times before the log on page appears. It is quicker to go down to the local pub and use their free Wi-Fi than to spend ages trying to 'log on', on the site. Having said all that we did have a pleasant walking holiday. Well done Caravan Club for keeping this site open all year.
