Pretty Castleton

Just returned from two short trips to this site, one on the way up to the Yorkshire Dales and one on the return to break up our journey. The site is very well looked after with pitches to offer shade or sun, depending on your choice. Well kept with lovely flowers and a very useful doggy shower for our two muddy doggies after a long walk over the hills. The four wardens on site were extremely helpful and friendly giving us good advice about the local walks and amenities. Castleton is a short walk from the site entrance with several good dog friendly pubs that serve lovely local ales, tea rooms, little shops, fish and chip shop and a fab bakers (their cheese and onion topped pork pie was amazing). The caves in the village also allow dogs entry which is lovely and inclusive for us dog owners. The views from the castle ruins and the walk up the pass behind the castle was lovely on a warm but windy day. The scenery through Winnats Pass is a must but DO NOT take this route with your caravan as too steep and narrow in places. Morrisons in Chapel-en-le-Frith is a decent size with all your essentials and petrol is cheaper here than anywhere else we found. The site is a great location for walking the hills or exploring the local caves, the Blue John Cavern being one of the systems to tour. A lovely site and so nice to find a site within walking distance of such a pretty village.
