A lovely Site.

We have just spent a week here and had a lovely time, having read some of the negative comments in the book in the Information Room we really cannot agree , yes the facilities are getting a little dated but the were always clean and tidy and so long as one is a bit organized there was no problems. My only gripe would be the horrendous noise level from the hand dryers. As usual the staff were pleasant and helpful. and literally the icing on the cake was walking to the bakery in Castleton for our daily bread and PIES, looking forward to a return visit

Perfect Castleton

Just had a wonderful week at Castleton. The site is a credit to the wardens, and the flowers are beautiful. We were lucky with our pitch in the open, because a lot of pitches are in trees, and so we had the full benefit of the sun. Castleton itself is a short stroll away, and is such a pretty, inviting place, with lots of different eateries. Lots of beautiful places to visit in the vicinity too, either by foot, bike or car. Only downside is that the wifi on site was rubbish. Advise go to the pub or cafe in Castleton.

First but not the last visit

Spent two nights here late July. Can't comment on the washrooms as used own, however, wife used the disabled washroom and found it fine. The dog walk is best forgotten, dark and dingy place on the small side, but hey, twenty five yards around the corner is the site entrance with a wealth of walking for your dog. The site is well situated for the town of Castleton. Turn right out of the entrance for a pleasant safe stroll of ten minutes to the town, some very narrow pavements in town make wheelchair use a little difficult, best to use the road with caution. Lots of dog friendly pubs (one provided Alfie with a water bowl full of iced water also treats) A few interesting shops and bakers, further on along the town is the entrance to Peaks Cavern, bus stops dotted along the way for buses both East and West. Lots of beautiful scenery to view and walk to, need more than two nights to explore the area so a return visit is a must.

Great four days

Just back from four days here with our two dogs. I would agree that the tv reception is poor but that was possibly due to the pitch we picked and the tall trees. The bathrooms were clean, the water was hot and we feel the reviews were harsh on the state of the showers - we felt they were ok. The staff were very helpful and the site was well looked after. The dog park was dark and small but the staff were apologetic for it when we got there. Great walks from the site and we will be back.

So tired!!

My first visit in over 5 years to what was one of my favourite sites - I used to visit 5/6 times a year - but oh dear, what a disappointment. The entrance and toilet areas are clean tidy and welcoming. Lots of flowers and pristine paintwork. The showers (as mentioned by others) are definitely not up to snuff. Clean but very old and jaded. The pitches are well worn out with overgrown trees and shrubs - so much so that I had to park up around 5ft off the peg. The waste/water areas are really tatty with rotting unpainted timbers and loose taps. Watch out how you connect to fill your aqua-roll. Finally the Club has spent my money on a dog washing facility (which is great) - but would the money have been better spent on a TV boost system?? I had no reception at all on my pitch and had to sit in the car each am to hear the news!! Sad really.

Badly needs some TLC

Stayed here for 3 nights in June. Site is in a great location and an easy walk into Castleton village with some decent pubs and shops. The showers are probably the worst we have seen on a CC site with the floors so uneven that the water doesn't drain away in some of them. The very dated cubicles with the plastic stools are really not acceptable nowadays. The change from mops to the useless "scapers" doesn't help either. Some of the woodwork round the service points was also badly rotted and in need of attention. Drying room was excellent though and very necessary given the weather.

Castleton site

It's well located for walking in the peak district, with quite a few walks available direct from the site, including Mam Tor and the ridge. The site was fairly quiet during the week but weekends were very busy, and one or two groups were very noisy. As others have said the facilities are a little tired and could do with refurbishment.

CC standard site

Used this site for number of years. The site is well maintained and grass , hedges maintained as a rural site. The showers are now very dated and small and need an update very soon. Very inferior to commercial sites. Location is good with walking in mind. Very close for fly fishing at Ladybower. Most of the Castelton shops are trinket sellers but the bakery as you enter is good for cakes and pies. Site probably most suited for outdoor types and had spaces over the week end.

Dog Shower

This is the first review we have written, but with this NEW addition we were very impressed as a regular visitor to this site. My wife & I are keen walkers with two medium sized dogs. Sometimes get caught out in the rain & mud. We got caught out in a massive downpour this week, walking it what felt like a river down the back of the castle. Arriving back to base camp to find a new dog shower! It wasn't there last year. I hope this catches on at other Club Sites. Well done Castleton!

Regular visitor to this site. As an owner of two black labs, the dog walk is a little short and tends to be crowded in the morning. However, to have a dedicated dog shower more than compensates. Very well positioned. Fine walks from the site. Lovely setting and secluded in trees, but with good TV and mobile coverage. Did have to resort to satellite dish to pick up best signal.
