A very pleasant stay

We spent a very pleasant 5 nights on this site. It's location is so handy for the visitors centre, the views from the dog walk are lovely and the pitches are good, the surrounding woodland very attractive. The wardens are friendly and went out of their way to help and the site was kept clean and pretty. The facilities are spotless and overall the site is well run. Would definitely return or recommend to anyone.

A nice site but some shortcomings

We didn’t find making comments about this site straightforward, we all judge a site based on our personal circumstances and criteria, we all have our own agenda. This site is very quaint but as a long narrow strip some of the pitches looked a little claustrophobic, the 6 units on the little siding we were on last weekend had 6 units 2 of them awning free was to many units on two small a space in our view. The wardens were as friendly as ever on a club site and very helpful, the toilet and shower block immaculate and well kept. If however you are a little frail or have any infirmness you could have a long walk to get to them if you are on an upper or lower pitch not an issue for us but has potential to be so if you do not have your own sanitation. The dog walk which is important for us also leads something to be desired it is very narrow in places little over 2 feet with brambles one side and rusty barbed wire a few inches from your arm. Is also very undulating and again something I was OK with but had I been infirm could have been challenging. The site has a lot going for it, location lots of nearby pubs for food the reservoir, plenty of places to walk etc. The issues w have are deeply structural, there is nothing the wardens can do to change them and the cost to make any changes would be prohibitively expensive, I am not trying to put anyone of it if it fits your needs it will be a fine site. Due to the time of year I also had a bonus of a small handful of tiny but deliciously sweet raspberries each morning’ If you can cope with the dog walk don’t mind it being a bit cosy with other units it is a nice site but we are unlikely to return. Just our thoughts Roy and Bev

Lovely site

We stayed for a week recently and loved both the site and the location. We only live 1 1/2 hour away but hadn't stayed here before, but would definitely come back. Wardens couldn't be more helpful or accommodating. Facilities and site in excellent condition as you would expect. Lovely dog walk in the pines around the perimeter of the site which took about 20mins.   Location really great for exploring Derbyshire. we were lucky enough to choose pitch 7 which had great view of Carsington Water as a bonus. Highly recommended.

little gem

just spent a week at this site can't praise the site staff enough really friendly and helpful ,we got caught up in an accident on the m6 which made us late arriving phoned site to be told not a problem if we could make it before 8.30 pm helen was happy to let us in not many sites would bother and you then end up in the late arrivals pitch.the only slight negative about the site is if you pitch next to facilities the mens washroom door double bangs everytime someone goes in or out which can really sound loud in the night .

Could be good

Of all the caravan club sites I have stayed at, this is one I really like and absolutely hate at the same time and would give 2.5 stars / ticks if the system allowed. The location is great and the toilet blocks are much improved from previous years.  However, pitches on this site are too small.  I have stayed here 5 or 6 times and whilst I keep coming back, I always find myself disappointed and have decided to remove from my list of sites to revisit now as I am tired of this feeling of disappointment.  This is in part due to my experiences before but on my most recent visit was chastised by a warden for moving a pitch marker to the back of my pitch despite if failing to do so my average sized single axle van would have protruded out into the narrow road blocking access (I couldnt win whatever I did). However at £31 per night for a pitch that is too small on a site with minimal facilities I would expect a little better treatment by wardens especially when they say nothing to speeding drivers or visitors who do not pitch in the prescribed way.  Overall this could be a gem but fails so much due to power hungry wardens and poor pitches.  Come on caravan club - I am close to leaving - I spend a significant amount of my income with you but am so frequently unhappy I may look elsewhere.

Comment from The Club:

Many thanks for taking the time to leave a review. The wardens have been in touch as they wanted to address your concerns.

Carsington Water Caravan Club Site benefits from having individual pitching areas and pitches of varying sizes, enabling members to choose a pitch that best suits their unit and requirement, with some pitches that can accommodate units up to 9m in length. Many members comment that this variety of pitch adds to the attraction of the site. In addition we would like to advise that The Club invested in the site over the winter of 2014/2015 creating 29 new hardstanding pitches.

Pitch markers are used to help members ensure that safety distances between pitches are maintained. Removal of pitch markers can make this harder to achieve.  We encourage members to talk to the site staff if they wish to pitch differently from the standard off-side rear corner to the pitch marker so that, together, we can ensure safety distances are not adversely affected. The wardens are always happy to help and want to ensure everyone is safe whilst staying on site.

Speeding on site is something that The Caravan Club takes very seriously on all of our sites and this is why we introduced the 'Hi 5' campaign. Wardens will speak to members if they see them speeding but if you ever have any concerns regarding anyone speeding on site, please speak to the wardens so that they are also aware.

As you can see from other reviews, the site is very popular with members in a wonderful location and with great facilities, including 2 play areas and a large modern toilet block. We hope that you visit again and thank you for taking the time to leave a review.

What a fab place!

This site did not disappoint, it is nicely located at the edge of the Peak District, easy access to Carsington Waters and cycling/water sports. The site is immaculate, super clean and the staff is super friendly. Had a lovely 2 nights camping, will be back soon!

a jewel but some things to be aware of

First visit to Carsington Water and found a jewel. Although quite a large site the pitches are in smaller areas surrounded by pine trees so when pitched the site doesn't feel large. The facilities are among the very best in the network and everything is maintained to a very high standard by the wardens. There are perhaps a few minor negatives which others may wish to know. The site is on a continuous slope from bottom (where entered) to top. The toilet block is in the middle. Unless pitched close to the toilet block the walk either to or from the toilet block is uphill. The pitches themselves are mostly not flat. And due to the pine trees surrounding the pitches most either don't receive sun until later than expected in the morning, or lose the sun earlier than expected in the afternoon. On a wet day the site can feel darker than a more open site would be. But these minor negatives are more than compensated by the standard of the facilities and general ambience, as well the close proximity of the reservoir. (Circuit is perfect for pre-breakfast run.) There are several National Trust properties within easy driving distance, Kedleston Hall perhaps being the closest and worth a visit.

Lovely site!

This was our first visit to the site and we have already booked another visit! The site was in a lovely location surrounded by pine trees. Although it is quite a large site the layout means that it feels much smaller and offers more privacy and peace and quiet than other larger sites we have visited. The wardens were very friendly and welcoming and the toilet block was always clean and I particularly enjoyed the music which accompanied my morning shower! We have 2 dogs and the dog walk is one of the best we have found which surrounds the park and the dogs loved it!  The only suggestion we could offer is that some of the pitches are on a slight slope so levellers would be an advantage.  We are looking forward to our next visit.

Edge of the Peak

Lovely site on the shore of Carsington Water. Friendly wardens, good facilities and lovely flowering tubs and baskets. Site well laid out with some lake view pitches. Good for families and everyone. Good dog walk on site, which is very clean. Glad to see dog leaflet being handed out to all dog owners and clean-up reminder notices on site.

Six Days in July

Our visit began on the 17 July  With a satnav it was straightforward to find. Signing in was easy and we were able to find our own pitch with no problems as there was good availability. Staff were helpful and pleasant.Toilet facilities were close at hand and were clean and adequate for our needs.  The site's position was good for touring the Peak District and for visiting our friends close by.  For anyone like ourselves wishing to investigate Carsington Water itself, as we did on our first evening, be aware that guidance to or around the reservoir from the site perhaps needs a little more description as what started off as a short walk to where we thought Cardington village was turned out to be a four hour walk round it and we got lost at the end. Our fault but signage back to our site on foot could have been better. Once you reach the dam get on to the road running by and the site is round the corner. Probably a good idea to bring heavy duty metal awning pegs as the ground on our pitch was quite hard. Access round the site is good and it reminded us of the Club's Mildenhall site. We would return to the site in the future.
