Good for families

Loved it - We stayed twice as long as planned !

A good site, well maintained with pitches to suit all expectations. We loved the location and having made the effort stayed 6 days instead of the planned 3. If your coming from Arran its a bit of a "string" road down from the ferry at Claonaig . . whilst only 15 miles or so, do take your time and its worth it. Don't be put off as the single track road is well surfaced and has passing places every 500 yards or so. We have a 7.5M motorhome so caravans would need a little more care - the route down the West coast from Tarbet and via Cambletown is longer but generally better 2 lane road - just as scenic. Take plenty of provisions however, as there are only basics in a pop up shop near the village hall (1.5 mile walk) but no other nearby shops. Colin site owner was very accommodating and it is clear he schedules / offers pitches suited / grouped to type - Families, regulars, couples etc. - We were early season so the site was relatively quiet and had a really nice pitch with views of the bay and Arran hills. Beach walks, hill walks, fishing all complemented by locality. Common facilities were good, hot showers serviced and cleaned daily Papers arrive every day, good WiFi, but provisions such as milk, bread and other essentials are a mile & 1/2 walk and mornings only in the pop-up shop. A pub (the Glen) is a similar distance in the other direction decent food and a bar but I suspect in high season you need to book. Carradale Harbour is perhaps 2 & 1/2 mile walk and there are 2 more "establishments" there catering for more local requirements - we did not partake. There is a café opposite the site entrance that advertised cycle hire - I should have investigated as we were camper "locked" so walking was our only transport mode which was a little restrictive. Carradale's Luxury Guest house nearby (about a mile walk) is exquisite we had a lunch as they only have 10 covers and were fully booked for dinner during our entire stay. Nevertheless the food was simply 5 Star and worth treating yourselves - book well in advance and get a babysitter for the kids ! In summary - A great location that rewarded the journey - Colin maintains the site well and if you arrive well stocked and get good weather then this is a fine place to just relax and wind down.
