Exploring North Cornwall

Stayed here for a couple of nights. Good location between Boscastle and Rock/Polzeath. Facilities more than adequate if a little worn. Everything clean. Owners friendly and helpful. More hard standing would help. All in all a good site for those wanting to base themselves in a convenient easy to get to spot for exploring the north coast.

We Will Be Back

Nice site in a very good location withe short walk into Camelford where you will find all you need. Yes the toilet block is dated but has all you could need and is kept spotlessly clean by the very friendly wardens. Surprisingly for probably one of the most popular areas there aren't a great deal of CC sites in Cornwall that have toilet blocks so I think maybe some investment should be provided, but if they don't and an older toilet block puts people off that also is ok as it will mean that we will be able to return easier. People are put off by the massive high voltage pylon which is smack in the middle of the site but it didn't bother us. We'll be back. Thanks for a nice stay CC.

Dated, but clean and friendly wardens

Reading other reviews, I would agree that the toilet block is dated and probably inadequate if the site is full. However, the facilities are very clean, which is far more important than their appearance.   Likewise, yes, many pitches are on a slope, so ramps may be required - but many sites are like this, so why complain? We found the location ideal for exploring Cornwall and Camelford has a superb dog-friendly pub/restaurant, (The Masons), which was within easy walking distance (downhill).  A £4.00 taxi ride back also seemed very reasonable. If we go back to Cornwall, we would definitely stay here.

Needs updating but good base site.

We stayed at this site for 5 nights and had mixed weather while there, which wasn't good as far as the tennis court was concerned, it obviously doesn't get used much and therefore doesn't get looked after, it was full of leaves, the surface was uneven and filled up with water in certain spots and the surrounding fence needed some attention. However the site itself is quite nice, the facilities definitely need updating and expanding as if the site ever does get full three showers will not be enough not to mention not enough toilets working and I know it was supposed to be Summer but the building itself was freezing. It is a good site for visiting the area as you are not far away from the main road to all of the surrounding towns and villages. There is quite a drop down at the far end of the site and the grass gets quite boggy as all the water runs down, this is also probably why the tennis courts get so wet. Would use this site again, but definitely need some attention.

Nice, but could be better

Just returned from an eight night stay here with mine and my brothers families, enjoyed the stay even with the changeable weather and limited facilities. We would have to agree with some of the previous reviews negative comments, facilities are dated but very clean, the existing facilities would struggle too meet the needs of the guests if the site was full, limited hard standing so if busy quite a lot of sloping pitches, lack of a play area, otherwise the site is well maintained and well placed in Cornwall for access to many lovely places to see and visit.  This site would greatly benefit from an overdue revamp, the site has much to offer and we would all consider returning sometime in the future, but please look at bring it up to the 21st Century.

Better than some reviews claim

We have just finished a pleasant week at this site although I was a bit concerned by some negative reviews. It is a pleasant site with conscientious staff who keep it well maintained and clean. The toilet blocks are always clean but comments about the need for some investment in the decor, etc. are justified. The claim that it is good for all the family probably does lead parents to expect more facilities for their children so any disappointment they experience is understandable. The site does not claim to have WiFi so its absence should not surprise anyone, but on the other hand the digital television signal is good and the 3G signal for web access is very good indeed, often with a signal strength of 5/5. Although it rained a lot during our stay and we were pitched on grass (with a nice view) there was absolutely no problem with access or with towing the caravan away when we left. The site is well placed for visiting the area and the golf club next door is welcoming. We will not hesitate to use it if in the area in the future. Hopefully by then the club hierarchy will have given it the overdue investment required.

Nice site, but....

You WILL need levelling blocks if there are no hard standing pitches available. There is nothing for children to do, not even a swing. The toilets and showers, although serviceable are old and dated, but are kept very clean. There is NO internet at this site so if you rely on it, make other arrangements. While we were there the people on the grass pitch opposite us let their dog wee and poo on the grass, just opening the awning door and letting it roam on a long cable, the furthest it got walked was to the back of their caravan so it could go to the loo there. Disgusting!! Apart from those minor niggles it's a nice site in a good location and is easy to find and enter/exit, although the middle gate post could be removed to make it a bit easier for a twin axle caravan. We enjoyed our week stay but probably won't be back which is unfortunate but the site really does need updating with new ablutions, internet, and instead of a tennis court could do with a play park for the children.

Great site for humans and dogs

Lovely quiet site, in a good central location for the Camel Trail and beaches, with some good local walks as well. Dog friendly pubs within walking distance and on the Camel Trail. Some pitches sloping, but not a problem if you have good levelling equipment. Very friendly and helpful wardens, we will be visiting again 16 nights was too short.

Pleasant site, but needs updating

This is the second time at this site, as has been previously mentioned by other reviewers, the toilet and showers are in need of a major upgrade. But the wardens do a good job of keeping then clean and the rest of the site is very tidy. I was disappointed that there had not been any Wi-Fi installed because I'm sure we were told last year that this was planned, but overall I would still use this site again.
