A short bus ride from Cambridge
This is a very good site for visiting Cambridge: stops on two bus routes into the city are 5 minutes' walk away (or longer if you are as confused by the site's written directions as we were!). It's a small site by C&MHC standards and, as it's in an old quarry, it's divided into several areas on different levels. Access to some of them is tight, so we would advise parking up on arrival and checking out the available pitches on foot. Some areas are rather dark, so don't expect all-day sunshine.
We didn't mark too highly for "peace and quiet" because there is some noise from the adjoining road and from what sounded like a nearby sports field, but none of this was too invasive
Washing facilities are in a single block and are clean and modern. We didn't see any play facilities for children or an open area for ball games, so wouldn't rate this site too highly for active families. Dogs, on the other hand, are well catered-for: some small wooded areas inside the site boundary (but not maintained by the club) and a wonderful chalk pit nature reserve across the road from the site entrance where dogs are allowed off-lead.
Two pubs are within easy walking distance: the Robin Hood (a Beefeater-styled pub restaurant) and the Red Lion (more of a locals pub). The former is the closest and serves breakfast from 9am. Dogs are allowed in the bar area, where the restaurant menu is also available and tables are scarce on Saturday evenings. We didn't try the Red Lion, but they were advertising Thai food on a poster outside.
The site managers are welcoming and helpful. Reception doubles as a small shop where you can buy caravanning essentials such as WC fluid and electric hookup cables.
