Have stayed here for a one night's stopover a few times, and each time found it to be a great choice.
The facilities are always clean, and the pitches well maintained. It is worth taking the recommendation of the team for a pitch to save practising the manoevering skills.
Will definitely use this site again, it is really nice as well as convenient.
Coronation wanderings
We chose this site as a base to explore Cambridge itself. We had a warm welcome on arrival and we chose our pitch from the recommendations of the receptionist. The site is quite small and access for larger vehicles to some of the different levels might be awkward. We found this to be a nice quiet site, although there is the road running along side and a sports site on the other side we didn't find this a problem, the noise level was low during our stay, maybe due to it being a bank holiday weekend. The facilities were very clean and suited us well, the washing up room was clean and the toilet/ washing area was clean.
As there are no facilities for children especially young ones this isn't really the site for families with young children.
I would recommend the buses, the service is fairly priced and they are regular. We used the number 3 bus into the city, there is another bus stop for the number 1 just down the road on the way to the Red Lion pub. This goes via Addenbrookes hospital. Opposite the bus stop there is a pub, the Robin hood this is a bit like a harvester style pub but the staff, service and food were very good. Our experience here was very positive and we will return at some point in the future to explore more of the area
Hospital Visit
Living in Norwich and needing to visit my son in Addenbrookes Hospital it was the ideal site. Good bus connection to the hospital. Due to health issues needed to amend my stay. Staff were very helpful. Thank you.
Disappointing!
We have visited this site previously and have always been happy however, unfortunately the site now is very tired, unloved and requires staff and investment. There seems to be a problem with certain pitches being out of use, whether this is due to the ground conditions or just lack of maintenance but aesthetically it makes the site look really poor. The wardens seemed stressed & agitated and were allocating pitches without the guests being aware, when we arrived there were several vehicles in front of us, as we pulled up to the barrier it opened so we thought that as our booking was paid in full that either the warden or a recognition camera had opened it, how wrong we were!
After finding a suitable pitch and after approximately 20 minutes setting up onsite I received a telephone call from the warden who accused me of driving onsite without visiting reception, which was correct however I then tried to explain the above but she was not interested and told us that we had to move pitches which we did, all this surprised us especially considering the overall state of the site and in that we visited very early in the season so I’m not sure how they will cope in peak season!!
Unfortunately this experience really soured our stay and we will not be returning the Cambridge Cherry Hinton site in the future.
A short bus ride from Cambridge
This is a very good site for visiting Cambridge: stops on two bus routes into the city are 5 minutes' walk away (or longer if you are as confused by the site's written directions as we were!). It's a small site by C&MHC standards and, as it's in an old quarry, it's divided into several areas on different levels. Access to some of them is tight, so we would advise parking up on arrival and checking out the available pitches on foot. Some areas are rather dark, so don't expect all-day sunshine.
We didn't mark too highly for "peace and quiet" because there is some noise from the adjoining road and from what sounded like a nearby sports field, but none of this was too invasive
Washing facilities are in a single block and are clean and modern. We didn't see any play facilities for children or an open area for ball games, so wouldn't rate this site too highly for active families. Dogs, on the other hand, are well catered-for: some small wooded areas inside the site boundary (but not maintained by the club) and a wonderful chalk pit nature reserve across the road from the site entrance where dogs are allowed off-lead.
Two pubs are within easy walking distance: the Robin Hood (a Beefeater-styled pub restaurant) and the Red Lion (more of a locals pub). The former is the closest and serves breakfast from 9am. Dogs are allowed in the bar area, where the restaurant menu is also available and tables are scarce on Saturday evenings. We didn't try the Red Lion, but they were advertising Thai food on a poster outside.
The site managers are welcoming and helpful. Reception doubles as a small shop where you can buy caravanning essentials such as WC fluid and electric hookup cables.
Perfect location for visiting Cambridge
Just returned from our third visit to Cherry Hinton and will definitely be going again in the future. It’s about an hour walk into the city centre or there are regular buses which stop just down the road from the site.
We found the ground quite hard for an awning and will take stronger pegs next time or try and get a grass pitch.
The shower/toilet block is always lovely and warm and clean as is the washing up area.
We have heard noise from nearby sports field which is floodlit so can sometimes hear into the evening, but cancelled out for us by occasionally hearing owls!
Staff lovely and friendly and whilst not much at the site for young children, it suits us perfectly
Lots of walks nearby and Greene King pubs within short walking distance which allow you to take a dog in
Lovely stay
Have returned today from a five night stay at this site and is all positive. The site is in a good location the relief wardens Kevin and Tina gave some good information about the site and area and it was nice to chat with them. The facilities were immaculate and it was in a great location for visiting Cambridge . Good stay.
Great site for visiting Cambridge
Stayed a few nights in July 2022. Great location for visiting Cambridge. Good bus service and if you have a bicycle take it as there are proper designated cycle lanes on the road into Cambridge. Facilities up to the usual standard. A quirky site lay out due to it possibly being a quarry in the past.

Perfect site for us
We stayed at Cambridge Cherry Hintopn site two weekends ago and found it to be perfect for us as a couple in their 60's. The chalk pits across the road were perfect for walking our dog and the pub being only 250-300 metres away was excellent for meals or a drink. Being so close to Cambridge which can either be walked to or by cathing the bus at the endf of the road was perfect for exploring a vibrant city. We will definately return here in the future.
Absolute fulfilling
We start and End here for our Wales Trip directly from and to Dover and had every time a warm Welcome and a good stay for some Times.
Quiet Place to Plan the next Day Trip and friendly Neighbors around us - only the dove irritate early in the morning if they run on our Top and begin extrem Rugugrugu .. :-(
But it is, how it is, a lovely Place with a cool old Pup near by site.
A place for Children's is here and Dogs are Welcome, too - mostly we see more Dogs as Kids...
The Bus Stop outside 4 min. from Camp left or right bring you fast to the next big Town Canterbury or Folkstone and secure back.If you like to drive with Bike to Folkstone there is a Way, too.
A small Shop to buy utilities out of Camp is also open for everyone.
We found it's a great starting point for some experiences - do it well !
