We recently spent 7 nights at Bolton Abbey. Unfortunately for us it was too remote from the places that we wanted to visit. The location is ideal for walkers but we found that we spent a lot of travelling time just to cover a short distance and didn't get to visit all the placed that we wanted to. We found the stone archway across the road at the Abbey very challenging and do feel that more emphasis ought to be placed on this in the directions to site. We would also not recommend the A59 via Harrogate especially with a large van. The wardens were lovely and the site was clean and tidy but this is a site for adults not children.
