June 2024 Stay

This was our first stay in a Club site and will probably be our last. You are met with a barrage of signs, do this don't do that etc. all what had been specified in booking communications. Good size level pitch with clean gravel although power supply was on the next pitch, the TV connection was even further away. There is no TV signal. I have a lead but would not reach the post (never had this problem before and my connection was on the side of the post. When mentioned this to the warden was told I could buy one for £20 (prehaps loaning or hiring might be more customer friendly). Very little mobile phone signal and the 'free wifi' was restricted making it virtualy unusable (when it was available). The amenities block was cleaned once a day and had very little ventilation/extraction so never dried and became dirty with use during the day with a lot of flys/midges round the showers. When cleaners clean the toilets they need to close the toilet door and look at the back of them, there were cobwebs there for the duration of our stay. The amenities are 'cleaned' from 10:30 to 12:00, the last leaving time is 11:00 so when all packed ready to go you cannot use them and wash your hands before leaving-very poor planning. It is not a quiet and peaceful site being next to a school with children that played out a lot and on the flightpath from Leeds Bradford airport. During our stop there was a dog that consistently barked (even when owner was talking to a warden) but nobody took any action over this. We were very dissapointed with this site and consider it one of the worst we have stopped at.

Doggie heaven!

We love this site especially in hot weather! There are so many cool places to sit and rest and so many interesting smells amongst the trees, especially along The Strid where we can swim in the safe areas. The circular walk from Bardon Tower up to the Abbey is a real favourite although a tad scary in places with the steep drops so we are kept firmly on our leads. Apparently there are some nice places to eat for our pet parents too and we can eat with them, but we prefer to stay in the car in the shade. Last time they ate at The Devonshire Fell in Burnsall and thoroughly enjoyed it. They did take us for our walk over the pretty green and down to the river though. All the villages are really pretty and there are some lovely pubs too serving real ales where we can sit with them. Thoroughly recommend it - waiting to go back soon.

Another great stay

Bolton Abbey is one of our favourites when in Yorkshire. We were concerned with the route through the abbey archway as we have a A class, however a couple of inches to spare between mirrors and wall. Excellent greeting, site cleanliness and lovely wardens happy to chat and help. No phone signal and limited WiFi. The walks along the river are excellent, we walked to lunch at Devonshire and Craven Arms which served excellent food. It’s a great site for peace and quite.

Charming site and team

A great place to get away from the rat race and unwind. Yvonne and Laurence are the best. The countryside and riverside walks are stunning. The site facilities are old but immaculate. Dont expect perfection, TV reception is non existant, there is NO phone signal, however there is a payphone at reception. The villages and pubs are around 3 miles away. BUT if you want a chill out around the BBQ, or a bottle of wine at the side of the river, or stunning country walks, this site is AMAZING. We will most certainly return and next time jump on the bus to Ilkley or Skipton.

A massive thank you

A massive thank you is due to Laurence who went above and beyond to get in contact with me when I left my phone behind on the day of our departure. it wasn't a straight forward process and his perseverance was very much appreciated. I would heartily recommend a visit to this beautiful, well cared for and efficiently run camp site - to be able to walk straight into the Bolton Abbey estate from the site entrance is amazing and it makes a fantastic base to explore the wider area. We will definitely be back - although next time I will keep a closer eye on my phone!

Quality as expected at a club site.

The wardens are very helpful and check in is easy, although there are quite a few rules and regulations to go through first. E.g. dogs are not allowed on any of the grass or tree areas at any time; fortunately there is a short dog walk. The site is at the entrance to Strid Wood. There are walks in all directions. It’s worth noting that currently the Strid Cafe and carpark is up for sale and closed. Facilities are as good as expected on a club site. Check out time is 11am and the toilets close for cleaning at 10.30am. The small shop is open 9-10 then 1-5. Some pitches are next to the small private school in the woods; there is a small amount on noise during 10 min playtime but it closes at 3pm. It’s not a problem. TV - no signal, you’ll need a coaxial cable which they sell. Mobile - no signal on 3 different networks we tried, probably not any. WiFi - despite the site advertising it as having WiFi, it is unusable. It’s rarely available and when it was it’s incredibly slow and drops. It would be better to advertise this as not having WiFi then there’s no disapointment. If you like country walks, riverside paths, nature, clear night skies, small sites and club facilities, you’ll like it here.

Lovely gentle site

We loved our stay last week. The wardens, Yvonne and Laurence, were helpful, friendly and had a great sense of humour. I fully enjoyed the walks down to the Strid with friends and the actual site was full of birdsong, including the Tawny Owls at night! We will be back without a doubt. In Strid Wood

In Strid Wood, where whispers weave, And ancient tales of old conceive, There flows a river wild and free, A murmured song of mystery. Through Yorkshire's heart, it winds its way, The Wharfe, in sunlight's golden sway, Its waters dance with graceful might, A symphony of liquid light. In Strid Wood's depths, the shadows play, Where secrets lurk, both night and day, Among the trees, their branches tall, Whispers linger, softly call. The river's rush, a constant thrum, Through wooded paths where fairies come, Their laughter echoes in the breeze, As sunlight filters through the trees. In Strid Wood, where legends dwell, Beneath the ancient, mossy spell, The Wharfe flows on, a steadfast guide, Through Yorkshire's heart, where dreams abide. So let us wander, hand in hand, Through Strid Wood's enchanted land, Where river's flow and stories weave. In Yorkshire's heart, forever to believe.

Great location, great staff

A beautiful and well looked after site. The staff are so welcoming and friendly, and go the extra mile for their customers. The only criticism is in regards to the WiFi, which is poor to say the least. So if you rely on a strong internet connection then it may be an issue. Although I did enjoy the opportunity to switch off from the outside world!
