Not our favourite site

First time that we have visited this site and won’t be in a rush to go back I’m afraid. Found Yvonne quite abrupt and rude and check in was more like her just setting the rules so not the most friendly welcome compared to other sites we have visited. Definitely not family friendly and dog walk is about 2 minutes long. Went to the cafe at the entrance to the site to be welcomed with the fact that there was no chef so could only serve us cake or sausage rolls (at 9:15am). Abbey tea room however was lovely and would definitely recommend. No choice of pitch even though there were some empty ones! Seems like they want all the children in the lower part of the site so they are ‘out of the way’

Great for walks and the cafe in the car park is fab. Not too big and facilities are great

A lovely site with ample walking opportunities to explore the Bolton Abbey Estate and wildlife in all its beauty at no additional cost

We spent five nights here in October with my wife, two dogs , VW Campervan and awning. The site is part of the Bolton Abbey Estate near Skipton. Access is via a fairly narrow B road. The Sat Nav will guide you somewhere near, but you have to drive on till you find the entrance. We arrived just after the earliest arrival time of 1pm. Check-in seemed to be more about ensuring we followed the rules than having an enjoyable stay. Quite a small site on two levels. We opted for a pitch on the upper site to be closer to the shower block, although the lower site would have been less effected by through traffic. The hard standing pitches were on a slight incline but proved to be reasonably easy to drive pegs home. No issues at all in our stay. The wardens were helpful enough if you needed to speak with them. In terms of facilities the shower block was up to the usual high standard of the CAMC . No dog wash point. There was a very short dog walk on site, rather pointless really as plenty of dog walking opportunities nearby. The site shop sold basic everyday essentials at inflated prices with a minimum £5.00 spend. There are no supermarkets within reasonable walking distance. Addingham has a Co-Op Five miles away. Skipton is nine miles away so best to come prepared. The biggest weakness on the site was no mobile phone signal. if you wanted internet access you had to pay for the overpriced Wi-Fi (not free like the Camping and Caravan Club sites). The Wi-Fi was also very poor and if you required 2 Factor Authentication very difficult with no phone signal. We discovered that at the start of the on-site dog walk there is a very small hot spot where you can receive a mobile signal (we had Three and Tesco Mobile). Useful for an emergency call or receive a non-Wi-Fi text message) The site is at the Bolton Abbey Estate, Strid Wood Car Park and Tea Rooms. There are huge maps and visitor information signs that you can photograph. Lots of trails you can choose from, to navigate the estate, with walks through the woods and along the river to the Pavilion and Priory where you will get a strong phone signal. In summary a lovely site with ample walking opportunities to explore the Bolton Abbey Estate and wildlife in all its beauty at no additional cost. Just bear in mind the limitations of communication and amenities. The wardens parting comments were that she hoped we had enjoyed our stay, and looked forward to seeing us again. I would happily return here.

Location location location

Beautiful walks from the site and great location. Only main criticism is the warden who insists on using his leaf blower on a morning so expect a wake up call and this annoying noise can be heard throughout the day. It's about time little boys and their toys are stopped with the increasing fuel prices and members might not have to take all of the hit. An example, riding around on a john deere tractor when they should take a look at knaresborough site where the wardens pull a cart around to collect the rubbish which is more environmentally friendly and with a smile on their faces. Was also challenged at 11.20 to why I hadn't left, as the 1pm is strictly enforced with arrivals why can't departures be at 12. Great stay but don't forget your ear plugs for the pointless leaf blower, would return with my headphones next time!

Recent visit

We stayed at this site from from 18th to 25th of Sept 2022, We rang prior to travelling as my Husband had a back injury and we were unsure whether to travel or not ,a call to Yvonne ,(who clarified with a colleague) we were assured as we booked on the old system we could leave early if we had too and a refund would be given. On arriving we were pitched bang opposite the facilities, pitch saved for us and every day Laurence ( warden) enquired after my Husbands health ,we were so impressed by the couples care and consideration, we felt they deserved a mention, they are a credit to the club . Thank you both Steve & Helen

Lovely Location

Great access to the bolton abbey estate and it's various walks. Usual club site facilities, rather expensive laundry. Shower blocks clean and tidy but maybe due an upgrade soon. This club site is on the expensive side but can justify with its location I guess.

Beautiful site with fabulous walks

Beautiful small site, spotlessly clean, helpful staff. Given choice of pitch on arrival. Dog walk on site, by gate river walk that leads to Bolton Abbey. Will definitely be returning here - keep up the good work wardens - the site is a credit to you thank you

Great site and the weather was amazing

First time we have stayed at this site and we weren't disappointed 37 degrees Yorkshire!!. Great pitches (you may need to level your van on some) walks to the river and strid were great and cycling from site were very good to for the family. Wardens very helpful and site spotless. As it's stated there is little to no phone reception so WiFi connection is a must for WiFi calling etc. Fantastic ice cream at Billy Bobby's parlour after cycling there. Located close to some Fantastic villages eg Grassington.

Woodland site on Bolton Abbey Estate

Very quiet site ideal if you like Riverside walks. Bolton Abbey maintain there paths to a high standard and have easy to follow trails. Teashop at entrance to site. Couple of miles along river there is a visitor centre, well worth a visit as you can make it into circular walk. Make sure you take adequate provisions as site quite isolated.

Superb Wardens

A beautiful site in a very tranquil setting one that we definitely revisit. Some lovely scenic walks and a very nice cafe near the site entrance I have to take the tine to commend the wardens Yvonne and Laurence - what stars, during what was very stressful time. Our dog was taken ill, they were supportive and compassionate, in fact they couldn't have done more. Thank you both, and hope it won't be too long before we can visit your wonderful site again.
